I ran across this article and thought others might find it interesting: http://georgesoutdoornews.bangordailynews.com/2019/03/26/hunting/turkey-hunting-changes-coming/I don't know any more than what is in the article, but it says the Maine legislature had to pass a law to force their game and fish commission to increase the limit and reduce the regulations. Apparently they had a low limit and all turkeys killed had to be taken to a checking station to be tagged. The predictable result was that very few bothered with turkey hunting and most people hate them because they have become a nuisance. The law will increase the limit to 4 in the spring, 8 in the fall, and do away with the tagging requirements. I hate to see all that hen killing legalized, but it's apparent those folks want some dead turkeys. I found it very interesting that their game and fish commission opposed the bill to the very end, but will ultimately be forced to bend to the will of the people. Do you think that says anything about how much the state agencies want to remain in control of things? And increase that control if they can? I think it's just further validation of the historical AL system of turkey management - set generous seasons and regulations and let the landowners and lease holders be the ones who make harvest decisions. When that happens, turkeys become a state treasure. When the state tries to micromanage, it leads to turkeys being regarded as a nuisance.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

I am not sure why there is such a large number of people that want larger more intrusive government demanding compliance. The government (i.e. DCNR) should be backing studies and educating the land owners/hunters about ways to manage instead of demanding top down compliance (game check comes to mind).

I can't fathom folks hating turkeys.... a lot of those farmers/ranchers out west hate em because those Merriams bunch up in huge flocks over winter. Place I hunted in Wy had hundreds of turkeys that stayed around his barn all winter, you could near kill em with a stick
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I can't fathom folks hating turkeys.... I kinda hate em right now, although for different reasons. If I do manage to shoot one this season, I'm liable to shoot him twice, just for my troubles... Damn birds...
