I tried to watch it but didn't recognize most of the artists and hardly any on the songs. There is some really good young talent in country music now but the songs leave a lot to be desired. I didn't even like the Chris Stapelton performance or George Strait.

get home from a long day, put on the radio Lookin' for some country soul, but I don't find it, no It's a dirt road free for all, some old boys sayin' they're outlaws, They dress the part and they talk the talk You know they've been taught to walk the walk These boys think they're tough like they been robbin' banks Cause they name drop Johnny Cash and they name drop poor old Hank Hey pretty boy in the baseball hat You couldn't hit country with a baseball bat Country ain't just about where you're at It's about bein' true to what's inside You say you're an outlaw with your perfect boots That you got from your record label's image group Sing another man's song with a big drum loop Listen, son, you ain't got a clue You can't buy true, tell you what they should do They should outlaw you Let me paint a picture for you, Nashville in '62 The formula had proven true, they didn't let nothing new through When Waylon came to town, they didn't like his original sound They tried hard to keep him down, they tried hard to starve him out But he kept playin' shows and pressin' on, chippin' away, song by song After years and years of strugglin' strong, he got his chance and he took it to #1 With "This Time" back in '74, with his band in the back and 4 on the floor That one record busted down the door and the record labels had the control no more Then in '76 came the Outlaws record, sold the first million in country music ever Those old boys with long hair and braids stayed true to their sound and freed the slaves And all these years later, the suits got back their grip They took the outlaw concept and they re-packaged it And there's a million Ol Waylon fans Singin' "Don't y'all think this outlaw bit has gotten way out of hand" Hey pretty boy in your cowboy hat You couldn't hit country with a baseball bat Country ain't just about where you're at It's about bein' true to what's inside You say you're an outlaw with your perfect boots That you got from your record label's image group Sing another man's song with a big drum loop Listen, son, you ain't got a clue You can't buy true, tell you what they should do They should outlaw you They should outlaw you Hey pretty boy in the baseball hat You couldn't hit country with a baseball bat Country ain't just about where you're at It's about bein' true to what's inside You say you're an outlaw with your perfect boots That you got from your record label's image group Sing another man's song with a big drum loop Listen, man, you ain't got a clue You can't buy true, tell you what they should do They should outlaw you Songwriters: Shooter Jennings / R D Hall / Blake Judd

There are some really good songs and bands out there but they don't get air time. 95% of what I have downloaded I found on Whiskey Myers radio on Pandora or other similar stations. Whiskey Meyers, Colter Wall, Turnpike Troubadours, Steeldrivers, Cody Jinks, Tyler Childers, several others I'm sure I'm missing.
Some of these are more bluegrass or southern rock than true country but they are LOTS closer than most of what is played on the radio.

Plenty of good music out there not just on the radio. Check out Tyler Childers, Cody JInks, Ward Davis, Turnpike Troubadors, Reckless Kelly, Robert Earl Keen, The Steel Woods. All are excellent and have basically told Nashville to kiss there ass and are doing it independent of radio play, and many are doing well for themselves.

George Strait sang 4 times, Chris Stapleton did a song, Reba sang and thats pretty dang country. Also, Carrie Underwood showed her undercarriage to the 1st 4 rows as usual. Ain't nobody throwing their panties on stage to a guy tapping his boot and singing about how his wife runned off with his best friend a his dog was barking at him from the back of his truck as they were driving away in it.
They play the type of music that the folks will spend money on want to hear.

The music was horrible. Mainly crummy bland fake pop music with an attempted country twist to it. Looked like a lot of pop boy bands onstage. I got to where I couldn't watch it after about 90 minutes. As of that point there had only been one real country song played - the guy with the beard and box guitar with the large blonde backup singing. Luckily I didn't see any homo stuff but a lot of those pop boy band guys masquerading as country singers sure looked queer. Reba was a great host.

Most of today's "artists" sound horrific when they perform live anyhow. They'd never make the cut on American Idol or any of the other spin off shows. But them skinny jeans and booty shakers drive the teen age girls crazy, I reckon. Beats all I ever seen.
