And when they quit, you are lucky to get a text message. Often times, they just stop showing up.

Sounds kinda like my daughter minus a degree who is 22 now. Did not want to go to college, like my wife and I did. Grew up on a farm in St. Clair County, hunted and fished, and learned a trade in something she has a passion for. Started her own company about 3 months ago, with her planning for it over a year. She is doing very well financially with a client base that is growing like crazy. When I ask her what her future goals were, say 10 yr goal, she replied: To expand into multiple locations, and build a great business that will allow her to hire quality individuals that fit, with excellent pay. Those were her comments...not mine. How's that for 22 yr old girl !

what gets me is that most of these bosses prefer to hire these loser slackers over people like me, that have a stellar work record. At one interview for a steel mill they asked me how do you feel about safety, I just told them I thought it was important. she then tells me that I failed the interview because she doesn't think Iam safe. These interviewers would rather trust their instinct than an actual successfull record with few job changes.

That's awesome. I think my son would have rather went into a trade but that scholarship money was sitting there, might as well use it.

What's her business details?

We are the cause thes kids are the effect. My generation spoiled these kids by never letting them fail, coddling them to much, telling them how special they were. It is the fault of my generation they are just acting the way they were taught. I am not sure they can be changed as they grow older but I hope so. I hope the next generation learns from our mistakes.

Could be the new generation of kids, or the past generation of parents with that "let it slide" mentality.

Young or old we just dock em lol.

Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

It’s not just youngsters it’s all ages. Most people I work with work harder to avoid work than it would be to just do the work. The older guys are usually worse because they feel entitled because they feel seniority equals superiority and that’s absolutely false in the real world.

Hell, we can't hardly find somebody to run and dang tractor anymore. I mean a nice air conditioned cab, air ride seat and an awesome sound system. If you do get one to help you, God forbid you ask them to get out the A/C and help you with something. They will be gone in a flash. Thanks goodness for a couple buddies that work offshore and my kids. My 13 year old daughter works harder then some men I know.
Couple years ago, one of my buddies asked if I would put his son to work to make him some summer money. He showed up the first day in tennis shoes. I asked if he had some rubber boots and he said no. Not no sir, no. I took him to the local coop and bought him a pair of Lacross boots. We went to the field and started putting in plastic overflows in the levees. On the 3rd levee he got a splinter in his hand from the 2x2s we use in the overflow. I dug it out his hand and kinda messed with him a little bit about it. I noticed he kept favoring his hand the rest of the day. I brought him home that afternoon and told him I would pick him up the next morning between 6:30 and 7am. I sat in his driveway the next morning for over an hr calling him and he never answered. I left. Got a "TEXT" from him later that day saying he quit because I laughed at him when he got the splinter in his hand and made him work in the mud with the sore on his hand. This was a 17yr old high school drop out now that told me this. The bad part about it was the dad just blew it off like nothing happened. The worst part about the whole deal was he sent me a text to get paid for that one day. I told him in a not so nice way that those boots were his pay.

I hate it for ya'll. I at least get to see which of my students will do a paying job before I give them a paying job. If they perform well in the classroom then I will hire them for real money.

Funny. Not to come across the wrong way but when I was 18 I was laying brick & block. I was fired and run off the job twice by my Dad at 16 from mixing the motar too soupy.

Then he would hire me back just to fire me again. He told me that later on in life.

Yep. There just aren't as many relatively "high" paying jobs to go around. Value of the dollar today is weak and people job hop trying to survive.

Technology has ruined a lot of people. I own my own Lawncare business and I’ll have guys get finished up and run back to the truck to check their phones or Facebook or Snapchat or whatever the hell young people do. Another problem I’m having with people is they have no work ethics can’t do chit but want 20 an hr to weedeat. I remember how I was when I was younger and how I worked for hardly no money and see what I’ve got to show for myself and wonder what some of these people’s goals in life are.
