Submitted my Capstone Project (essentially a masters thesis) for approval yesterday evening. I got an email from my advisor/mentor today. Other than 1 punctuation error and me using a plural noun as a singular noun one time in a 47 page paper, she approved it. When I saw the words "no further work is required," I about let out a yell for the whole office to hear! This is the biggest project of my entire degree and I passed it upon 1st submission so I was pretty proud. I just have 2 more classes and to complete and I'll walk across the stage at The University of Alabama in December to receive my masters degree. Now I can really concentrate on getting at least one more bird before season goes out!

I'm curious, what does a Master's do for you in your field? i would have figured you were pretty well educated up.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

You, of all people, will love this! My love for UA goes back to when I was 8 and we lived in northport in the mid1970’s. We would take Sunday drives and often ride through Campus and I was just in awe as a little kid. Wanted to go to Bama out of when I graduated from Prattville HS but ended up at AUM when my dad said he would pay for it if I did well. (Thanks dad! RIP!). So I took that route to avoid having any undergrad student debt. All these years I’ve just been a “sidewalk alum” of UA, so i decided to make my dream of being a bonafide graduate from Alabama a reality. So basically, I love the University of Alabama so much that when I finally had the time, resources, and support, I went back to school to finally get that degree I dreamed about as a little kid! Sounds like a crazy reason but I like setting goals and achieving them. I’ll probably do a little teaching sometime in the future and with another degree, maybe I’ll be a little more marketable. Thanks for all the congrats guys! Dr. B

That's awesome! I'm 50 and can't imagine going to school now but my dad always wanted to go to college and he started at 50 yrs old and got a degree from Samford going nights and weekends. He knew it wouldn't help him in his job but it was a goal for him too. Congratulations on a great achievement!

Congratulations and I think you are right about helping you teach in the future. What is your Master's in? I'll go back and read the original post so don't answer if it is in there.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Congrats Doc. My wife has two Masters Degrees from the University of Michigan, financed through 100% fellowships. Even though she had a great job that paid well, she’d always dreamed of getting her Doctorate. While working full time as a Director for the American Hospital Association, she completed her Doctorate at the University of Illinois, while in her 60’s. I was able to proofread her dissertation and listen into her defense via a phone hookup. She’s now the fifth Dr Meadows in our family: Jeff (Cardiologist), Ed (Surgeon), Allison (Cardiologist), and Caitlin (Orthopedic Surgeon).
