I've been eating like crap for a while now. Lots of sweets (thanks to the wife) and a couple beers almost daily. I've always had a high metabolism but over the last few months I've noticed it slowing down considerably and I've gone up two notches in my belt (a lot of it has to do with the fact that I took an office job and sit on my ass for 8hrs a day now). I'm starting keto mainly to try and get out ahead of it before it really gets out of hand. Office job was what turned me from a fat man into an obese man. I walked a dozen steps from my air conditioned car to my air conditioned office and worked editing video and producing local TV shows sometimes as long as 17 hours in a day. I could adjust my hours though to be late the next morning but I worked so much I didn't have any time to do anything else. I gained about 80 lbs in the first 2 years.

I'm 215lb on what should be about a 185-190lb frame. Hoping to knock this beer gut and love handles down a good bit. Im in the exact same boat. About 210 and should be in the 180-185 range. Yesterday i had a tablespoon of sunflower butter and boiled egg for breakfast. Didn’t have much time at lunch so I just had two boiled eggs. A little bit of raw broccoli and a turkey/cheese roll up for a snack and some Keto Tex-Mex casserole I found for supper that was really good. Still thinking I’m gonna have trouble getting enough fat and keeping the protein moderate.

I'm a hungry guy so I had three boiled eggs and a tablespoon of coconut oil for breakfast, a handful of pork rinds for a snack, half a chicken breast some broccoli and a few slices of cheddar cheese for lunch, and some taco meat over lettuce with cheese for supper. That seems like a lot of food when I tally it all up but my food tracker app says it only came out to be 10g of net carbs and 1700 calories so I guess I'm doing it right...

Don't matter as long as you are loosing weight. I weigh every day just to keep track but I don't freak over a few pounds. I just want to make sure the overall trend is on course. I'm down 120 lbs. I weigh 210 now and not real fat at 6'2 and a muscular frame. I'm trying for a 6 pack now and starting to see some shape under that flab.

Down 20 since April 1. I’ve had a “splurge” or 2 I guess. I’m not super strict. Trying to stay under 50 carbs and 1800 calories a day. I know it’ll be slower now but I feel good.

I finally figured out my weight loss stall. My body was in "starvation mode." I did a lot of reading last Sunday afternoon, trying to figure out what the issue was. I read a short online article "Seven signs you may not be in ketosis" One of the 7 was an afternoon energy crash and another was, being hungry. Last week is the first time I have had an afternoon lull and I was also hungry all week. Last week my blood ketone level was running between 0.7-1.2 mmol. That's the lowest it's been since I bought my tester. After reading the article I started adding up what I had eaten for the past 3 days and I was averaging around 1500 calories per day. It really is easy not to eat many calories on this diet. After reading the article, I decided to increase my calorie intake and see how it went. I cooked up some Johnsonville brats Sunday evening and had 4 of them for supper. That was a 1000 calorie meal. I've been eating around 2500 calories per day this week and this morning I weighed 291. So, I'm down 20 on the Keto diet since 4/4 and I've lost 5 pounds since Sunday. If I keep this up I may be back in my Speedo by July. Down 20 since April 1. I’ve had a “splurge” or 2 I guess. I’m not super strict. Trying to stay under 50 carbs and 1800 calories a day. I know it’ll be slower now but I feel good.
AC, I'm pretty sure you've posted that you aren't doing the Keto diet, but if you are staying under 50 carbs, if you aren't in ketosis, I'd be really surprised. 20 lbs in a month is one heck of a lot of weight loss. Good job buddy!

What are y'all eating that's high in fat but low in protein and carbs? Johnsonville brats They have the perfect macro profile. 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbs. I only figured that out Sunday night and I'm going by memory so that may be off a % point or three. For "fat" foods, I'm eating lots of eggs cooked in butter, homemade guacamole, lots of hard cheese, nuts, smuckers natural peanut butter, buttermilk or homemade ranch dressing, olive oil on everything and some coconut oil. A spoon of coconut oil (the white solid kind) and a big spoon of Smuckers peanut butter mixed together is a great snack.

You keep doing Keto and you won't be. It's hard for me to eat only when hungry and eat enough calories per day. If you think you have no will power, come meet me. I have always been the poster child for lack of it. Two more days and it will be a month since I started this. I have had ONE bad junk food craving. I was in a convenience store and wanted something sweet. I wrestled with the devil (I think literally) and walked out without one. I got a Slim Jim instead. That's not bad for a guy who ate a big iced honey bun for breakfast for probably 25 years of his life. The way I talked myself down was to realize that if I ate one Little Debbie, or one whatever that it would kick me out of ketosis and it would set me back at least 3 days because it would take me that long to get back into ketosis. Checking my ketone level has been better motivation than stepping on scales. It takes discipline to get your level over 2 mmol. I've been there and probably am there again. It's sort of addictive to check your level, but at $1 per testing strip I try to pace myself. LOL

Fur you’re going to be a Keto expert by the time this is all over with. I haven’t been doing it long but I’m already seeing like you said that it is easy to not eat a lot of calories.
I like to "research" so let's just say I'll be real familiar with it. For you guys who are just starting, make sure you take a magnesium supplement and a multi vitamin daily. Gotta do it on keto, especially the magnesium. Also you guys who are 3 days in.... If you've been eating a lot of carbs prior to this, you're about to hit a wall of feeling bad, at least from what I've read. I did not hit that wall, but I had been eating "healthy" for about 6 weeks before starting Keto.

Fur, when I was messing around with ketosis, I found MCT oil/powder in my coffee in the morning, made my ketone levels elevate. Its like everything else, works for some, not for others.
For those interested, this is great stuff. Very creamy in your coffee. Some say it takes your gut a while to get used to it, but it never had any affect on me.

The hardest part for me has been eating the right percentage of fat. I've had no trouble eating the protein. I've found myself in and out of ketosis since I started April 14 at 320 down 15 pounds today. Fur thanks for the suggestions on the fat.
