That map shows an almost straight line of dark/bright running from about Laredo, TX North all the way to eastern ND. I guess this is the edge of the Great Plains maybe? I-35. Laredo, San Antonio, Austin, DFW, OKC, and KC. Then I-29 up through Omaha, Sioux City, on up to Fargo. Lots of really big or at least good sized cities. Not much between there and Denver.

Yes, that is the I-35 corridor, but I was curious as to why the near blanket light coverage to the East of that and near nothing to the West until you get to the Rocky Mountain front range. I am guessing it is because all of that in between is the Great Plains.

No people to speak of and LOTS of corn, beans, and wheat. Think of Lower Alabama (minus the chicken houses) with 75% less people. I was up in Omaha for a meeting back in September and heard that something like 75% of Nebraska's population live in a 100 mile radius. Same is true for the most other plains states. No wonder the hunting is so good in those states

Western Iraq, near the Jordan border, was the darkest (a most beautiful) sky I've ever seen.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.
