The eastern USA is loaded with light pollution. The darkest skies I can find in Alabama are west of Greenville to south of Selma. Many will disagree probably. The darkest skies I have ever seen were in southwest Texas. Here's the USA dark sky map and you can dig out your favorite location and see the darkest area's of the country. Dark sky Map

It gets pretty dang dark north east of Greenville near Highland Home. It isn't in Alabama but off hwy 13 in Tennessee where Wayne, Lewis and Perry counties meet is about as dark as anywhere I've been. Your about 15 miles from the closest small town and there are very few houses.

Pretty dang dark skies a 100 miles or so out in the gulf. Barber Co. KS has some dark skies too.
Some of the prettiest stars I’ve ever seen were at night drifting the Spur for Swordfish

Old Texas Alabama. Located in Northeast corner of Monroe county and just South of Butler and Wilcox county line. Beautiful place to be around a camp fire in late January.

When I was a teenager i seen some of the most beautiful skies at night in Stockton heading towards my buddies place at Eureka landing. It looked like a scene from the lion king 😁

Nope is Grandpa ended up selling it about 10 years ago (maybe longer) and i sure wish I'd a had first dibs, cause he pretty much gave the lot and little camp away.

Wouldn't mind an affordable tiny lot there, big enough for a camper or two.

I leave Wednesday for two weeks hunting near Kamanjab Namibia. The ranch I hunt on is 30 miles from the nearest paved road and there are zero clouds this time of year. Nothing like sitting around a mopane fire smoking a Cuban cigar and listening to hyenas and leopards call. You can actually see satellites at night.
