If you have hog panels around your feeder to keep the hogs out and off your bait and you end up shooting ol' mossy horns standing under your feeder while waiting for it to go off and he's inside the hog exclusion panels, would that be considered shooting one "in the little pen"??????????? I sure hope to find out!!

For those who are saying "Aw, it's just $15 and that's not much." you're the frog in the pot of water on the stove with the temperature being slowly turned up. A little bit here, another permit or "privilege" fee there, another nick and ding, and before long it's going to be like waterfowl hunting with a laundry list of permits, fees, stamps and other stuff to check off before going.
Yup. Would be interesting to see how all those folks feel if they collect everyone's money, then before the season even comes in they declare the presence of CWD, and shut it all down. It was just $15, you know. Millions for the state, though. Plus, all the fines they'll write for folks who made all that investment on new feeders and tons of corn who are going to hunt them anyway at that point.

The triple matching federal funds on the bait license part makes me think this was decided a long time ago and the money part was a big factor. I wonder if any other states have a similar charge for baiting that have matching funding? I know Florida doesn't have a fee.

Clem...STFU ya'll do remember bitching about when it was too dark to legally hunt??????? We didn't need any "shooting times" defined for us, either.

I wonder if any other states have a similar charge for baiting that have matching funding? I know Florida doesn't have a fee. It's probably not difficult to quickly determine what kind of federal match is or would be available. It wouldn't take long-range planning and skulduggery. Bills to allow baiting have been introduced so many times I'm sure the DCNR and the bills' supporters pretty much knew who would support or oppose. It's just a matter of back-scratching and whatever else goes on to get it across the finish line. What was interesting was the DCNR had no public comment other than to say it didn't oppose it. Back when the GameCheck deal was being pushed we were told that it had massive support because anyone who was "neutral" was counted into the "Yes" category. So, clearly the agency supported the bill. To oppose probably would have repercussions elsewhere along with not getting the federal match. In the end, it's always about this in one way or another:

Is EVERYTHING not really about money? Why do we go to work? Every single organization, Public or Private, that I have ever had any part of required money to operate. Why fool ourselves into thinking otherwise?? And, unless someone has some type of realistic and feasible plan to remove the DCNR from the equation in regards to our Wildlfie and Hunting, everything else is simply whining and moaning to me. I know a LOT of damn good people who work in our DCNR. And, I hope that the extra funds not only allows them to perform their jobs better, I hope it also conveys into better pay and benefits to reward them for the jobs they do!

I guess that is just me, though. No , 15 ain't much but more you feed it the hungrier it gets . Let’s not forget the 51 bucks it’s going to cost the non-residents for the privilege of baiting. I don’t know of any other state that charges to bait deer. A license to bait your own land or lease is plain greedy. After this coming season, the folks at DCNR ought to be living high on the hog. Highly doubt out of state licenses get any cheaper, or the overall license fees will be reduced for any species, or more game wardens will be hired.

This is for the greater good, and surely you know all the non-residents will gladly chip in $51. Gladly!

Remember this.. fiscal responsibility and Alabama do not belong in the same sentence. This is Alabama, the # of game wardens will stay the same, the ones that are doing a good job, in all probability will not see any raise or increase in funding for new trucks, equipment or anything of that nature related to the additional funds generated by the baiting license.
The additional funds will probably be somewhat minimal anyway. Baiting and hunting over bait has been rampant for the last 50 years in Alabama. It became even more so in the last 2 years with the stupid 100 yds and out of sight rule. Anyone that thinks that all of those people that were willing to break the law, and risk getting caught all those years, are now going to just get in line to buy a permit are crazy. A large percentage of Alabama hunters were already hunting with the aide of bait and they are not going to pay to do something they have already been doing for free for years and years. I'm betting the revenues off the new "license" will be minimal. The biggest revenue streams from of the new license will probably be from the guys like Danny that will use it, mainly outside of deer and turkey season, to get hogs into predictable and easily huntable locations.

I pay the Wildlife Heritage fee and buy a WMA License every year and hardly ever set foot on a WMA. And, I do donate to the DCNR. Our Club is also enrolled in the State’s DMAP Program. But, if you need me to pay for your Baiting License; I will. I get what you are saying, I really do! And, I think you know that. LOL But, like I said, unless somebody has some type of a realistic plan to change things for the better, I simply see the complaining as useless noise.

I guess that is just me, though. I'm gonna get the non resident permit but I just don't see why they didn't just make it an even $25 across the board. when non residents come fishing or hunting in Louisiana, the state doesn't charge them any other then the NR license. The state doesn't charge extra for your bait to fish with or corn if you're deer hunting. Just my opinion.
