Thanks, but I'm not sure that it wasn't desperation more than discipline that drove me. Ya'll don't let yourself go as far as I did and get 130-150 lbs over weight, and if you are that far gone there's still hope if you want it bad enough. I'm only recently looking at keto and adjusting my diet some with some veggies I wasn't familiar with but I did basically the same just doing what the Lord told me to do. I gave up all sugar, all grains and starchy veggies like potatoes. I weighed 330 Christmas two years ago and weighed 300 last August. I'm on target for about 180 by this August just depending on muscle gains. At this point I don't care what I weigh any more. I just want all the fat off my body and to be muscular and healthy whatever that weight is. I train every other day and am hoping to post a picture of me L sitting in a lawn chair on my one year anniversary of giving up Sugar and grain.

I don't even think of food the same. I don't think .what would I like to eat now, because I am craving such and such or such and such would sound good. I'm thinking what I need to build lean muscle and burn fat. I'm thinking what would make me feel real good the next day. I'm into calisthenics and some yoga stretches which really peal back the years. How you feel is really what matters. You could be 20 and in bad health and it would still suck. On the other hand I see men who work on it all the time in their 60's that are doing more than I ever did in my 20's, so age doesn't really matter to a large degree until you get really old and their's only one alternative to that.

As of yesterday I have lost 130 lbs. I'm 6'2,muscular build and weigh 200 now. I think maybe 20 more pounds will give me my six pack abs. Dang man, somehow I missed this post. That is AWESOME. Congrats! I'm down to 281.5 this morning. That is officially 30 pounds on the Keto diet in 7 weeks and 3 days. I'm pretty pumped about. 33.5 lbs total since mid February. The best thing about now, compared to prior weight loss attempts years ago, is that now my brain has changed. I no longer feel "hangry." My brain feels 20 years younger than it did 2 months ago, and my energy levels are off the chart. I haven't felt like doing anything but sleeping or dying for several years. I was absolutely miserable and had given up that I'd ever feel better. I can honestly say that in just 7 short weeks I feel better at nearly 48 years old than I ever remember feeling. I'm down 3 belt notches and I'm wearing shorts that I couldn't button last summer. My vision is even better. This is awesome. I have no cravings for anything food related anymore. None. I have to make myself eat. I'm working in the garden in the evenings and lifted some weights with my son yesterday for the first time in many years. I have no intentions of lifting heavy weights but I will do light weight and high reps just to stay toned. Again, I'm posting all this so I can have some accountability and also to journal my journey. I thought I'd never feel this way again. Ever. I've never reduced calorie intake without feeling like I was starving all the time. I use to lift a lot of heavy weight and go to the gym 6 days a week. I've done the protein shakes, 2 grams of protein per pound, all that jazz and I've never felt this good or felt this satisfied with what I was eating, ever. I assure you, if my fat arse can do this, any of you can. I've never had any mental discipline. That's one thing that's kept me motivated, is to gain some discipline. I like it.

Fur We got to get together some time. I could have written exactly the same thing. You are doing great man.If you ever lose momentum give me a shout. I've overcome all kinds of obstacles from on this journey. Sometimes the folks you hope will support you the most are the least helpful. In their defense however I do have to stay an at an annoying intensity level to transform myself from John Candy to John Cena. Do like you are doing and start low with the weights. I started with 15 lb dumbells and thought I would only work on endurance. I do the same things with 35 lb dumbells now that I did with the 15's last year. Then I started calisthenics with Chris Heria online. Then I started yoga stretches. Then intermittent fasting and super food shakes. I will not limit myself with any thinking from myself or anyone about what I can't do anymore. I do know how old I am and will listen to my body but anyone at any age should and there's no reason I can't be just as good as I was at 25. Even now I'm better than at 25 in many ways.

RH, I know what you mean about intensity level. People are avoiding me so they won't have to hear about Keto. I'm use to people avoiding me but it's more noticeable now. LOL
One of the guys at the shop brings homemade biscuits and sausage every day. He lives beside his grandmother and she cooks every morning. He usually brings extras... One day last week he was passing out biscuits and sausage and one of the other guys was waving a biscuit around in my face telling me to go ahead and have one. "You know you want one" is what he kept saying. I told him he nor the biscuit had no effect on me. He didn't believe me. I had no intentions of eating one and to shut him up I grabbed a biscuit, tore off a piece and stuck it in my mouth. I let it set on my tongue for about a second then let it roll out of my mouth into my hand with him watching. I threw it in the garbage, then told him, "see, no effect." I wouldn't have done that a couple months ago. I would have said to myself, "well one won't hurt" and ate one. I did eat the sausage though. I'm all for getting together. We'll go fishing.
You'd think that after 30 lbs my Boone and Crockett head would have lost some weight but I don't think I've lost one ounce in my face. I took pictures of my face the day I started and again last week. I can tell very little difference.
Thanks Zbrann.

I’d have eaten the sausage and tossed the biscuit.

Those of you who are using the test strips
If you're going to do this long term, get a Keto Mojo blood tester. I started with the strips but they are very inaccurate. Mothers day Sunday we ate at a Hibachi restaurant. The meat had some sauce on it with sugar in it. I was going to only eat the meat and green vegetables but since the meat had sugar on it I decided to eat the rice too. I have strips at home and my blood tester at the office. The strip said "Negative" for ketones and the blood tester showed 0.7 mmol/L.

That's what I did. You still on the wagon? Thanks TopCat!

I’m in New York City with my daughter’s choir trip. Definitely not on the wagon but I haven’t strayed too far and I’ve walked 12,000 steps a day. Hadn’t gone over on calories but I have on carbs. Still nothing like I used to do.

I didn't know I was at one time either. It's why I couldn't lose weight. It would be like a heroin addict trying to quit by cutting back. he will eventually be worse than ever, and that's exactly how my diets went until I completely quit sugar.

Good deal AC. Keep it up man.
RH, I've always done the same thing as well. If I were to guess a limit, I'm gonna say I can't eat more than 40-50 grams of good (green) carbs a day without that making me crave more. I definitely don't want to go back.
Just a reminder for anyone who is doing keto... Take a daily magnesium supplement. You'll be cramped up terribly if you don't. This hot weather is going to exacerbate that problem.

Just a reminder for anyone who is doing keto... Take a daily magnesium supplement. You'll be cramped up terribly if you don't. This hot weather is going to exacerbate that problem. That's one reason for the super food shake I posted. It's very difficult to get enough by a supplement. What we really need is a min of 6 cups veggies every day. My shake is at least half that and the biggest benefit is not cooking all the nutrition out. When I say 6 cups, a batch of turnip greens cooked 6 hours may be delicious and still better than eating a burger, but nearly all the nutrition is gone.
