Well that's kinda what made it funny to everyone (but me). At the time the club I was in was just a primitive camp site and I had just been using a bucket with the bottom cut out. Well a rather large member bought one of the fold out crappers and it held him up . He was about 280# and I'm 215 so I bought one and told everyone on that trip with us " this thing will hold up B honea "... my buddies still say that back to me for a laugh every now and then.

Cots very much yes.

Take the number the tent is rated to sleep and cut in half to see how many it will really sleep.

Just about any tent you can purchase will be great. Buy the cheapest onsale. Tents have come lightyears.

For basic car camping and light use with room for 2 plus a dog....go with at least a 6 person to have plenty of room for larger air mattresses or cots. Plus room to store your gear in there is a lot of rain one day.
For Alabama warm weather camping, get one with lots of mesh for airflow and a big enough rain fly that protects the entry door from rain.
Bathtub style floors are much better.

Coleman is a good brand for a basic tent. Check out the Coleman Sundome 6 person tent. Basic dome tent with decent reviews. $129 at Cabelas. Unless you are camping a lot, this should be a good fit.

I've had an 8 man family Magellan tent for 13 years that has been heavily used (and abused) by kids and it still works but it is showing its age with some mesh rips, zippers that stick and some duct tape in spots. We've camped in in multiple times a year since purchase. I know nothing about Ozark Trail. When I replace it, I'm going with a Kodiak Flexbow. My older boys will be doing their own thing but we are still camping with Jacob for 10-15 more years I hope. The Kodiak should last me until I no longer want to tent camp ever.

Money....gimmicks raise prices, but I'd look in that $100-$200 range for a decent tent for your purposes. Should be plenty of options.

Are you gonna be camping wherever you park your truck or will you be packing tent and gear on your back? Will make a big difference, if your just camping beside the truck take all the amenities. Backpacking, better consider weight.
I have a big Agnes tent that sleeps 2, has 2 rods for assembly and weighs about 2 lbs. we use sleeping mats to sleep on, after we don’t get any sleep the first night.

I refuse to camp in the summer. We camp in November deer hunting. You can actually have a fire and enjoy it without all the bugs. I enjoy tent camping. For 2 people you need at least a 6 person tent.

The most enjoying setup I've ever had was one of those roof top tents you can put on top of a Jeep... we had it on a 4x4 Suburban. You can pretty much go and do anything with that setup and leave all your junk in the truck. Hike, hunt, fish, whatever you want to do during the day. When you are ready to go throw it all back in the truck, fold the tent up on top and drive away. This is a setup for forest service roads out west and that type thing.

They really aren't that expensive all things considered and if you have a place to store it... great setup for truck camping which I enjoy more than just straight hiking. You can do some really fun excursions

I suggest you find a little spot like I found Tuesday. This was Wednesday morning. It shouldn't take long for someone to identify this place.

Roll up and throw in garbage as biodegradable. You can find most if not all at Walmart. Coleman has a nice website you can go nuts buying stuff like hot shower and all kinds of stuff. Even battery powered fans are available at Walmart. Enjoy!

Don't trust those pos fold out toilets! I took one to bama jam years ago. I was dropping a duce on in and the dang thing collapsed....it was bad day .

Must be one of those Cheap ones rated to 275 pounds. One I ordered online is rated to 500 pounds. Same height as your home commode so you can be comfortable taking a dump. Used by forest service, government etc. do your business and double bag with powder and throw away. Easy. rofl

That's exactly right swampy.
All you need to do is join any expeditionary force, in the military, and it'll cure you of the camping bug.
