Before it’s over with I’ll have to buy a separate license to use bait on a fish hook Before it's over people will just stop hunting and fishing. It isn't worth it. The libertarian side of me said it's a license to do something extra (not just hunt), so not a huge ordeal even if I didn't like it. I just will not buy the feeding permit and go about my business. Now if drop off or pick up a buddy who is hunting over feed and all I did was drive down the road to check the cows, I can be ticketed. Not that it would hold up, but they could write it based on his podcast. This is asinine at best.

I figure the end goal is to be like Tn.It cost $150 to hunt and fish if you are a resident. You literally have to buy a license for every weapon used, seperate either sex license and 15-17 have to buy a juvenile licenses.

So, according to y'all above.......a GW cannot write dad some sort of ticket for having Jr with him hunting over bait when Jr doesn't have the baiting license?
Hell yeah he can! That's considered contributing to the delinquency of a minor. What kind of sane judge wouldn't realize the 6 year old is just a good for nothin freeloader trying to scam the system??

You know, it's funny. I knew corky well, and Riley Smith too. I argued with them often. I never imagined that I would say this, but I surely miss them, both! These clowns on Union Street, today, have set a new standard for incompetence and stupidity.

I will not listen to anything Chuck says. I will not listen to anyone who defends him. There's only two words we need to hear from Chuck.... "I resign". I got the feeling a lot people would like to hear that

These clowns on Union Street, today, have set a new standard for incompetence and stupidity. Quotes from an article Corky wrote that sure are applicable: "Once again, the vast majority of Alabama’s are hard-working, middle-class people. Most are only occasional participants; one-third do not even hunt as frequently as every year. That’s why it’s important that Alabama not build its hunting programs around avid, advantaged hunters, but around this much larger population of hunters who are increasingly being priced out of the market." "Research shows that overly-complex rules and regulations negatively impact hunting participation, so simplifying these rules would encourage greater participation." "Product-driven hunting regulations are a slippery slope, failing to recognize that most hunters cannot afford to go out and buy the latest fad or waste money on bait or feeders." "Hopefully, with wise efforts to encourage a culture of hunting in our state, Alabama can continue to foster this great endeavor for generations to come."

Oh trust me, I know Corky's opinions all too well. And today I agree with a bunch of them. He used to make me so mad, with his "we just need to educate our hunting population" arguments. But, as I get older, and see what we're working with today, I absolutely understand what he meant.

Look at it this way... you are getting taxed $15.00 to teach your kid to sit over a corn pile instead of teaching him how to hunt.
If you teach him to hunt over a corn pile but refuse to buy the appropriate license.... then you are teaching him/her to also be an outlaw like yourself.
Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me.
If it were up to me I would also make you buy a tag to tag your button buck with... and I would make your deer processor keep detailed records of your 35lb deer as well.
This is what is wrong with hunting and why we have low participation. Hunter satisfaction has to be pretty low when all we teach our kids to do is go sit in a shooting house looking at an empty field, get bored with that after sitting there 30 minutes.... and then when the first thing with hair on it pokes it's nose out of the wood line blow it clean off. Ride back to the camp house and hang out.
When I was a kid... The high point of the trip was NEVER heading back to the camp house to eat and watch football or my father sit around and BS with his buddies and drink beer.
Pay the $15 and stop whining.
They need the money to hopefully hire additional GWs so they can write y'all a LOT more tickets in the future for not reporting your deer.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

I don’t have a problem with anything Chuck Sykes has done. People will complain no matter what is done or why. We finally got a biologist managing Alabama’s wildlife (with limited funds) and most people here think they know more than he does. Smdh Or a jackass biologist screwing the taxpayers for his power trip. Your mileage may vary on your opinion. Biologist don't have the corner market not being a failure last time I checked.

No offense, but I have a hard time imagining a biologist screwing things up like a can of worms. Lawyer, yes, but not a biologist. Sorry if you were just being facetious. I was too of course (kinda anyhow). Bottom line is while most conservationists say we need to attract more people, especially our youth, to hunting, Chucky is trying his level best to create an environment where the opposite occurs. He really does need to go.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I'm no fan of the changes. I know the Department is underfunded and all agencies nationwide are seeking revenue sources. In the end, the "baiting license permit" is here to stay and is, thankfully, nominal compared to what they could've done with it. I don't believe this is the end of piecemeal increases, though, like for specific weapons or other fees. But to say Chuck is doing all this alone and making all the decisions alone is false. I don't know the man. Never have met him. But I know enough about how things work down there that it's not a one-man operation. The director or commissioner doesn't just say "Hey, let's phuck up the hunters by adding a fee" and it happens automatically. Politics and a lot of backroom crap involving meddling legislators with no biological knowledge and other citizens trying to measure dicks or push their agenda happens. Politics and stuff like this is pretty damned ugly.
