How about they get their revenue from the law breakers, not the law abiders. Because there are not enough GW's One or two per county will have trouble catching the bad guys.

Not sure where you are getting your into but according to the DCNR, "Violators don't stand a chance.". That is a quote from the Hunting and Fishing Digest. So, the LE section is good and getting it done with their funding already. They have airplanes, boats, atvs, trucks, radios and officers standing at the ready. That's another quote from the DCNR. Who is saying they are underfunded anyway? If they are, why have we never heard of cost cutting measures? If they are, maybe it's poor money management? If they are, maybe the could try to sell GC to another state and try to recoup some of the money wasted on a poor system?

Sometimes it takes money to make money. They would obviously catch more bad guys if they hired more Gw’s, so why don’t they just hire 20-40 more and give them a ticket quota for true law breakers so that it’ll cover their salaries? They also need to increase the ticket cost for the big violations. A $10k fine for night hunting should start curbing that behavior.

I will agree with chuck that corn is not the magic ticket that is going to get that 150+ on the wall or have every deer on the property sporting a trophy rack.

Catching bad guys could definitely add to
the coffer, but, and a bigazz "IF" , the dadgum
DA's and judges would emphasize the importance
of nailing the game violators when they are caught.
Some have the attitude that they "just want those
cases to go away", and nonchalantly forget
upholding the charges. It seems like they don't
care at all.
Lots of money goes down the crapper when these
people don't do their jobs.
I would like to know how much money is left on the
table because of this.

Once again, very little of fine money actually goes back to the agency involved. Most of it is already allocated by law to entities like the Crime Victim's Compensation fund, MADD, The Judicial Retirement System, The Southern Police Benevolent Association etc. etc., etc. Very, very little is left for the agencies and then it has to go through the General Fund and pray it is allocated to them by the those that control the monies.
Any LE agency, municipality, or other gov't agency that depends on fine money to operate is in bad trouble already.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

...The Judicial Retirement System.... When talking about fine money, this certainly seems like a huge conflict of interest. I wish I could fund my retirement system with fines I levied on others...

I find this statement from DCNR funny as all hell. When I worked Greene Co with Harvey Foster we had a pretty good handle of who was doing what and when. We figured we were actually catching less than 5% of the violations that occurred every deer season....and we were pretty damn good at catching violators. So actually the violators had a 95% chance of getting away with a violation. I'd bet that Adkins and I caught less than that in Jefferson Co.... but "violators don't stand a chance".....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Troy, I was joking with Prentiss one day about his hard-ass reputation. He basically said the same thing. He said, "I work my ass off, day and night, to catch maybe 5% of the bad guys. So I'm throwing the book at em and I ain't giving nobody a break". I could respect that attitude from him because I knew that it was true. He did work, dang near 24/7 and never failed to return my calls or show up when we needed him.

...The Judicial Retirement System.... When talking about fine money, this certainly seems like a huge conflict of interest. I wish I could fund my retirement system with fines I levied on others... To be fair, I'm pretty sure the Police Benevolent Association, also gets a piece of that pie, and I agree that both of those could be a conflict of interest. If you really wanted to do the research, it is interesting to see the breakdown of all the groups that get some of this. That is why fine money really doesn't benefit LE like it should.

They also need to increase the ticket cost for the big violations. A $10k fine for night hunting should start curbing that behavior.
As much as people like to yell about putting deer poachers in prison, which a lot of people say, or making fines $10,000 for spotlighting, those things never will happen. First, the prisons are overcrowded. Prisons and jail are two different things, too. It's wholly unrealistic to even think that someone would be put into prison for wildlife violations, unless they're incredibly egregious. It's done now and again but overall, it's not going to happen. As for fines, raising a fine to $10,000 or so for shooting a deer at night would be akin to making a speeding ticket $1,500. Would it stop the violators? No. Plus, it would be challegened in court as a violation of the Eighth Amendment as an imposition of an excessive fine. The Supreme Court recently ruled for a man whose $42,000+ Land Rover was confiscated by law enforcement after it supposedly found about $300 of drugs. He argued that their punishment -- claiming his vehicle, among other fines -- was excessive. After years of appeals, the Supreme Court heard the case and agreed with him. So while today's current fines for wildlife violations are pretty piddly-ass amounts, even with any court costs added, putting them into the Rage Mob Knee-Jerk Reaction category of prison or five-figure amounts is unreasonable. However, some middle ground probably should be found.

I think forcing them to work weekends on some WMAs or other public grounds is excellent middle ground, excuse the pun.

I think forcing them to work weekends on some WMAs or other public grounds is excellent middle ground, excuse the pun. At least one judge, I believe Grider, in Jackson County used to offer this option for those brought before him. They could buy a Lifetime and also work x-hours at the WMA or public boat ramps, or take his sentence. Best I remember he wasn't light on sentences. Most bought the license and did the community service.

$8k is pretty high I think you need something realistic.
The fine needs to be higher and/or make them do $____ worth of community service. At $10 an hour.
3-4 months of doing community service every Saturday would cure most offenders.
It's supposed to be punishment.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
