Anyone know much about them?
Irish Jr. just called me pretty excited and for good reason... They just offered him about $8.5k more than what he's making currently with full benefits, 401k, Blue Cross and 3 weeks paid vacation. He'll be working IT for them.
I know he's worth it. He just studied for and earned his Network Plus Certification and is a top notch IT, network, graphic design, all around computer guru kind of young man. However as his Dad I worry about who he's about to go to work for...
From what I understand they supply folks like law enforcement with their 2 way radio stuff and I assume more than that... From what I can tell they seem like a pretty legit organization, but I was just curious if any of you guys have worked for them.

He oughta apply on guvment jobs at RSA. Security+, C+ and similar certifications are mandatory in almost anything comm wise at Redstone now.
Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

Take the job or not, but I'd recommend your son continue to pursue certifications that are relevant to what he wants to do. Those and experience can take him a long way.
Been here long enough to go from "bring 'da pain" to " bring 'da pain meds.

He is pursuing more certifications as time goes on. He's only 21 and this will only be his 3rd job. It will take time for him to study for the tests.

He definitely chose a great career field, it’s not going to go away. The govt jobs are plentiful and a great opportunity as well. Hard to beat a GS level job if he ever chooses that route.

If this is allcomm wireless which owns a place of business in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa I know the former owner which is/was still involved in the company. I also know one of the group that bought him out. On a personal level I have little use for either of these individuals. I can’t say for certain on how they are in a professional atmosphere. Hopefully the type people they are in private doesn’t carry over into running their business. If it does I would not last long working for them. I know the company has been successful in making the former owner a lot of money.
I know two guys that work for them and one is a good friend of mine. Both of these individuals are good people and I respect these two guys.

I used to work for the same kind of shop before I left for where I am now. Looking back we should have had some dedicated IT talent. I knew a few guys at Allcomm including a couple that I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire, but I don't think they are there now except for 1. I really enjoyed it in the 80's and 90's but saw the end of the line for that was near. Maybe they have branched out into other areas that can make use of his talent. Just make sure he actually gets what is offered. One of the guys I know was promised the moon and left before he had been there a year because they slow delivering what they promised him when hired. Worst part of that job was dealing with the public but being IT he may not have to. May be a good stepping stone though.

I work for allcomm. Shoot me a PM, Ill help where I can Great to see folks help out here as always. Morgan is good folk and I know a few others with them that are as well. I have worked on sites with these folks on lots of occasions and they all seem as happy as can be expected. It's been 1.5 years due to me swapping jobs so they might have already hired for it, but in my opinion, their line of work has been and will continue evolving to involve a lot of needed IT/network gurus. I assume travel is expected?

They make less but have more security. I have one and I know. It's a hard call early on. He can earn a substantial salary now and use that to leverage a higher GS spot later. I'd chase contractor jobs early on.

He really wants to eventually get on at UAB for the educational benefits in addition to all their other benefits. Who knows though he may make a career at Allcomm. I wish I had been as focused, dedicated and hard working as he was when I was 21. He's definitely doing better than I was at his age. It makes me hopeful that he will surpass me and be more successful than I have been and I think that's something that all parents want for their kids. The fact that he's doing it all on his own in his own chosen field really makes me proud.
