AJ. GS didn’t write any of his own songs And I'm pretty sure his guitar was more part of his "outfit" than an instrument....went to a GS concert several yrs back and and he barely played it all night, just held it. Probably has had the same set of strings since 1997. I love George Straight too, but you're right about this. But just high enough where you can see his belt buckle he won... at his rodeo, that he created

Wrong Jbuc, George wrote or co-wrote 11 of his hit songs.

I guess most don’t know about George’s long time struggle with booger sugar. Good friend of mine grew up with George’s late daughter. He’s got some interesting stories to say the least

Wrong Jbuc, George wrote or co-wrote 11 of his hit songs. He wrote or co wrote 11 songs on his 2011 album here for a good time, and his 2013 album love is everything. 3 of those singles made the top 10 in the charts. What were the other 8 “hit” songs?

If you think George Strait really cowrote more than 1 or 2 of his own songs, then I've got some ocean-front property in Arizona I'd sell you...( ). Seriously, many musicians will have it in their contract that they be listed as a cowriter on any song they record whether they actually cowrote anything or not, and the fact that GS didn't write 90% of his own songs tells me he probably didn't really cowrite the other 10% either. My grandfather was one of the founders of Hi Records. He was also a songwriter and wrote for Sun Records prior to starting Hi. He's had songs recorded by Carl Perkins and The Beatles, among others that we still get royalty checks for today. Some of his songs of Carl Perkins listed as a co-writer. Carl didn't write a word of those songs of my grandfather's that he recorded, but contractually they were obligated to list Carl as a "cowriter".

I like both but King George is the best of those two IMO.
Somedays I say the Possum is the real King , somedays I feel it for Merle .

I'd take AJ over George..... but I'd rather listen to Chris Ledoux over both of em. He is a real rodeo badass.

What some of you may not know, George was a cowboy working on a ranch. He only performed on weekends. While he was very popular around Houston, he was not pursuing a full-time musical career. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a very big event in the Country Music world. All the big names perform there. One year, Eddie rabbit was scheduled to perform several shows. a couple of days before his performances Eddie lost his voice. The Rodeo scrambled to fill those shows. They filled some, but at a late date other performers were already booked. They then called local singers. George was one they called. The rest is history. Sadly Eddie Rabbit went on to die of Cancer, his wife died of it too. They were both heavy smokers. Eddie Rabbit was a great talent too. (I love a rainy nite, one of his best) George got the national attention at the Rodeo and it hasn't been anything but great for him.

Why does everyone make such a huge deal out of being from Texas? Beto is from Texas, Austin is in Texas, George W is from Texas..... Texas lost its way a long time ago. The whole "from Texas" thing ain't what it once was. Don’t tell those arrogant folks that

The whole "from Texas" thing ain't what it once was. Yep. Austin if full of a bunch of weirdos. Meet someone from Dallas, and they'll talk like they're from New York city, and not a trace of anything southern about them. Just like people from Atlanta, etc. All huge cities now are very similar in many respects, and not culturally connected to rural areas in the same state.

Back in the day when they were both at the top I preferred AJ. But it seems George's songs hit more to home now. Call'in it a draw
