You can eat “fast food” and do low carb. Hope this isn’t too “dirty” keto. Mushroom Swiss burger, no bun, and a side salad from Charburger. One of my favorite low carb restaurant meals. Thought I had pic but can’t go with it.

I ate all kinds of dirty keto in the beginning ,but changed as I progressed and wanted better results. It's all about quality of life buddy and if you decide a dirty keto meal every now and then means quality then give it a try. I tell everybody, just eat the way you want to feel.

The two biggest "take home" things the MD keto "expert" has told me. Eat more clean fat and eat more salt. She takes a salt tablet every day in addition to salting her food.

Fur Cut out pork for a week. I about guarantee you will see a decrease in blood pressure. I can tell the difference if I eat pork more than about once a week.

I already don’t think I eat pork more than once a week. I’ll keep a closer eye on it and see. Thanks

Today is 5 months doing Keto. 311 on 4/4, 254 this morning. Down 57 pounds. This is the first month that I haven't lost at least 10 pounds. I had only lost 3 pounds this month as of 10 days ago, so I'm glad to have lost what I have. No worries, it'll come off. I have backed way off on red meat. Eating more chicken and fish.

Thanks man. One major thing that I forgot to update and somebody might need to know is that over the past 6 weeks or so I started feeling bad. Really bad. Last week I could hardly function. I was completely and totally exhausted. I’ve also had a severe headache for 2-3 weeks. That was what’s lead me to find out my blood pressure was so high.
Last Friday I pretty much crashed. It finally dawned on me that my CPAP pressure might be too high since I’d lost over 50 lbs. I cut my pressure down Friday night and that’s been a game changer. I still feel like I’m catching up on rest but I’ve felt much much better than I’ve felt in weeks.
So, if any of you guys are CPAP users, keep that in mind. If you lose enough weight, you’re going to need your pressure adjusted.

You’re right Randy. My main focus 57 pounds ago was to lose weight as fast as possible but after hitting that 3 week long plateau at 50 lbs I’ve shifted more into just eating healthy, not worrying about the level of ketones in my blood stream. I’ve been only eating meat once per day, and that meat has been either chicken or fish. Last week I did wonder if my potassium level might be low so I “cheated” and ate one banana a day for 3 days. That’s actually when my weight loss picked back up. There are 27 carbs in a medium banana and I didn’t check my blood to see what effect that had on my ketone level but I don’t really care because I lost weight anyway. I’ve cut way back on trying to eat lots of fat and not using meat as a fat source. I’m just glad I finally thought to drop the pressure on my CPAP because I felt worse last week than I did 57 pounds ago.
Incidentally, I decided to check my ketone level while I was writing this post because I haven’t checked it in probably a couple of weeks. It was 2.7 mmol/L. That’s the highest it’s ever been. I guess cutting back on meat/protein has raised my levels from 1.8-2.2 where they’ve been running. I know protein can be converted to glucose.

I haven't even checked my ketones since I started 150 lbs ago. I have gone from mostly meat ,eggs, cheese and totally cooked the nutrients out vegetables to a diet of as much green salad as I can eat, lots of sardines, salmon, and tuna, some beef and chicken but more fish and less meat all together. I still eat a good many eggs too. I just adjust as I try to experiment a little when I study different foods and what they do for us or sometimes to us. I've cut out some things like tomatoes and milk and sugar and so far potatoes, pasta are rice, completely. I have recently added in more nuts, beans, seeds, and the oats as an experiment on how I feel and how my body reacts by gaining or staying the same.
I honestly think everyone has to tune their diet for what works for them, Some things should be a given though to stay away from like sugar, processed foods, and things like highly processes flour that makes the cheap white bread and all the major cereals, white rice, and fried potatoes. I think these should only be enjoyed as an occasional treat if you just can't help yourself in anybody's diet, even if they don't want to lose weight, just because of health concerns in general.. How radical you want to get with weight loss and health recovery just depends on your goals after that, but the best way is always to learn what the healthiest foods are for you specifically and only eat those and stay away from any man made garbage processed foods or ingredients.

Fur, you are in the upper echelon of weight losers. Not many can pull off what you've done. Keep it up.
And yes, protein will be converted to glucose. Gluconeogenesis. I can't eat more than 6 oz of animal protein a day if I want to stay in optimal ketosis (>1.8 mmol). I know that others can, its really individualized.

Randy I’m convinced that everyone has an optimal diet and it’s definitely not the same for everyone.
Thanks Ticka. I probably had 12 ounces of chicken and fish for lunch yesterday. I don’t know how much effect glucogenesis has on me, but apparently my body is not as efficient at converting it as yours is.

6 months in as of today. Down to 249. That’s 62 pounds lost on Keto since 4/4 and 66 pounds lost since mid February. Weight is dropping much slower now and as of a week and a half ago I hadn’t lost any weight this month. I had my 48th birthday late last month and decided to have a cheat day on my birthday to try an kick my metabolism up and get back to losing weight. That seems to have worked. When I plateau again I will try that again.

Congrats for sticking with it. I started 6/1 and I am down 47. Feeling great and excited about dropping some more.

Thanks guys. Green and TC, I’m proud of both of you. Bull, no I haven’t considered it. I don’t see how I’d benefit from them. I’m staying in the optimal ketone range with no issues.
