If your life is in danger you can leethally and legally cause it to expire. I was making a long wank back to the truck in the early 2000”s and sensed something was off. I doubled back and what I saw still keeps me awake at night. Don’t care what anyone says. It was a big cat. I knocked an arrow and let one fly. Not sure if I hit it or not because I started running as soon as the arrow left the string and didn’t look back.

I've enjoyed it many times with no problems so I guess Meateater needs a little education

I think he knows how to cook it but in this particular situation they started to get rained on I believe and he rushed cooking it. Obviously if you don’t cook it to the proper temp then you’re almost guaranteed to get trig. The sucky thing is he also subjected his friends and cameramen to it as well.

The best game meat cook I know is able to make Wood Duck taste good but even she says she can't do anything with bear meat. Having said that, I've heard plenty of people say they like it so if I ever were to kill a bear, I would make sure someone got the meat before I let it go to waste. I never had any desire to kill a bear until I was hunting in Montana and saw a rug on a wall in a rural bar. That would have to be one of those One Day I Hope to Have a Place to Properly Display it things.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I've enjoyed it many times with no problems so I guess Meateater needs a little education I'm pretty sure he cooks bear meat all the time and really enjoys it. I think the instance he always refers to was a long time ago and he knew better, but figured he'd risk it and got sick from undercooked meat. MeatEater is one of the reasons I want to try a bear hunt so much, and try eating it. Clem and I have talked about bear meat, too. I'd give it a shot.

I've had some out west that wasn't great but tolerable. We hunt and fish with some ol boys from Tellico Planes TN. Them guys can flat out cook it. You'd have no idea your were enjoying bear.

The MeatEater guys also eat deer and turkey livers, on a regular basis. I think their palates are a little different than mine.

I remember an episode where they shot one (black bear) that had been feeding on a lot of wild blueberries in the area. They said as soon as they cut it open, they could immediately smell blueberry, and said you could kinda smell/taste it in the meat and that it was some of the best bear meat they'd had. I'd like to give that a try.

I'd like to give that a try. What a bear is eating can affect the flavor. If they're eating fish they'd probably taste like fish. If they're eating berries and acorns, same. Just like we don't eat diving ducks like mergansers, which taste fishy, we don't mind dabblers like mallards or acorn-loving wood ducks. Jono is correct about Rinella when he got sick. He was younger and dumber and like a lot of us back when thought he was bulletproof at the time. He's also been hospitalized for some other ailments and said his bout with giardia was very bad. Live and learn. I'm considering, again, a bear hunt this season in West ByGod Virginia where they have so many they gave up issuing a draw-tag system and now you can hunt them during deer season.
