Killed a deer the landowner told him not to, then killed a bigger one(same day..only one tag). He left the first one to rot and took second one across state line(federal violation). Got caught, convicted, fined.

This is the caption on the main photo -- "The Star spent a year and a half exploring the hidden world of breeding deer for freakish antlers so they can be shot behind fences."

This is one reason the news media is in the f'king tank even deeper than ever. There is no "hidden world" in deer breeding and killing them in the big pen. This chit has been going on for many decades. But just because it's relatively new in Indiana and has become a bigger thing there in the last few years, The Star believes it's now the big arbiter of secret revelations into the dark underworld of killing deer in a high fence pen.

Idiots.

And because the general public doesn't know much about it, a lot of them see this as "hunting" and associate it with those who don't pay to shoot a big or freak buck grown in a fence. They see it as unpalatable and unsporting, and that reflects on all hunters from the stickbow purists who want a 12-yard shot to the beanfield box hunters with a rifle they want to air out at 300 yards or more.

This is one reason so many hunters get pissed about high fences and f'king hate being lumped in with people who pay to visit 1,900-acre Will's Deer Pen and act like their 164-inch droptine buck they shot is a big deal.

If it was high fence it doesn't matter how many u kill is that not right? They are not free range animals so the one buck doesn't apply to high fence right?

Depends on the state laws and/or regulations. But just saying "it's in a pen, I can do whatever I want" usually isn't going to happen.

As Fred said, kill a buck illegally and transport it across state lines - federal screwup and no Monopoly cards can help you get out of jail.

I know that but they got him for killing 2 bucks also but if they were killed in a fence I don't see how that would hold water

Just having a fence doesn't mean you can ignore the game laws and regulations if the game animals inside it are regulated by the state's conservation agency.

Well just because it's a fence don't mean u can call up an outfitter next week here in bama n go deer hunting cuz they have a high fence...

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

This is a longtime argument of the Landowner vs. Conservation Agencies, and one reason (of many) that some high fence operators want to have deer and other animals inside their fences put on par with livestock and oversight transferred to their state's agricultural department.

Landowner puts up a fence and says it's his land, he can do whatever he wants whenver he wants even if the deer inside it were once wild or he brings in new ones to breed. Also claims he and anyone else can "hunt" these anytime since they're not wild and are "his" deer (or elk, or whatever).

Conservation Agency says nope, they're a game animal and should-must be regulated with oversight and that belongs to them since deer are game animals with hunting seasons, limits, etc.

This was played out in the Missouri courts the past couple of years. It's been a point of contention in other states. Best I can remember, the courts have ruled for the Conservation agencies.

High fence animals are nothing more than livestock anyway I get both sides of this argument
