Not true sir, no new system is 14 seer unless you replace the furnace also because the new furnaces have the x13 blower motor, no supply house is supposed to sell just a coil and condenser anymore, the system must be a matched 14 seer
Not to mention that if he has a 30 year old furnace that its probably a 60% efficient unit and it would be crazy to not upgrade it to at very least an 80% efficient furnace

Just had a 3 ton unit with gas furnace installed back in may for $5700

2800 sq ft single story and we have 2 units...3 ton and a 2.5 ton. Add soon as this unit Is paid off I'm replacing the 2nd unit as they were both installed when the house was built in 02

Also, you can't get the 10 year parts warranty on just the condenser and A coil, it would only carry the standard 5 year, the system has to be all new, furnace included. This applies to any brand, and Goodman's aren't too bad, but older models are notorious for indoor coil leaks. The dealer is way more important than the brand.

It is crazy to not do it all at once, but you absolutely can. Any supply house in Huntsville will sell any company that walks in the door a condensing unit and coil without selling them a furnace along with it. The complete system wouldn’t be a “14 seer”, but it’s getting done everyday and it can be done.

Also, X13’s are trash and have been for a long time.

That may be true in Huntsville, but the biggest supply house in the southeast got fined 250k this past year for not selling matched systems, and around here, (Birmingham) you will get refused at any supply house in town. And I agree with you 100% the X13 is a POS, but it's all there is anymore in new equipment.

Not true. I can install an American Standard condensing unit right now, Without replacing the furnace or coil, I can have the condensing unit 10 years of warranty by simply registering the piece of equipment. Same goes for a furnace installed to an old Condensing unit and coil.

There’s plenty of manufacturers out there using Variable Speed motors instead of constant torque. X13 isn’t the only new motor out there.

I stand corrected then, OP sounds like you need to find an American standard dealer and slap you on
new coil and condenser on your 30 year old furnace

Well, since you asked.

I would recommend an American Standard AccuComfort Variable Speed 20 Seer Dual Fuel with a Platinum 95 Modulating Gas furnace and I’d have a big ole 1050 stat hanging on the wall to operate it with. laugh

grin

Come on now. Go back to my original post. I would still recommend doing the complete system. A 30 year old furnace needs to be gone.

I’m currently installing a three units in the house we are building. I can’t wait to have efficient HVAC.

What have you opted to go with?

Trane units. I don’t know the models. Gas furnaces, I just like the better than heat pumps. Have a 2 ton in the basement, 4 ton for the main floor and a 2 ton for upstairs. 3850 square feet all together.

What the hell does this all mean.

Obviously the 20 Seer is extremely energy efficient. Dual Fuel? Why Dual Fuel? My AC is Electric and Furnace is Gas. What is a big ole 1050? Man you guys make me feel dumb but this has been an extremely helpful thread.

Any recommendations in the Auburn/Opelika Area for a good HVAC guy?
