I heard that Keto makes your BP go up? Not sure if it's true, but that came from the wife Don't know. I guess it depends on why you have high blood pressure to begin with. I was taking 3 different BP meds and I am off all of them with perfect B now for about a month. It just took about a year to get off all them. Fur I had to lose about 70 lbs before I started exercising. You don't have to do much but if you will get your heart rate up with high intensity exercise during your fast, only 2-5 minuets of increased heart rate will make a huge difference in fat burning. Just do something even if it's running in place to get that heart rate up for a few minuets ,then go about your regular work. do it a couple more times a day when you can.

Two days shy of 3 months on Keto. Had my annual physical today. I just checked the patient portal and some of my labs are posted. Today my Triglyceride level is 117. They've changed the patient portal that they're using so my records don't go back a full year. I don't know my exact Triglyceride level from a year ago, but IIRC it has always run 250'ish. My total cholesterol is 214. A1C level was 5.5
EDIT: last summer at my check up my triglycerides was 287. 170 point drop due to the keto diet.

That’s great Bigem. Keep on trucking! It will get better and easier as time goes on. RH has talked about the 3 month time frame and now that I’m at it I think I’m noticing more energy and mental clarity than I did even a few weeks ago.
It amazes me after my doctor appointment yesterday how little conventional medicine truly understands about blood chemistry. My doctor is an internist and a dang good one. I told him yesterday that I was looking forward to getting the results of my blood work, that I wanted to see how much my triglycerides had dropped. He said, “your triglycerides will be extremely high.” I told him that I didn’t think it would be and he told me that it would be and then told me the reasons it would be.” I just smiled and said, “well I guess we’ll see.” A 170 point drop is incredible. He put me on a triglyceride lowering medication a decade ago and they still didn’t drop below 200.
I don’t remember what my A1C level was a year ago, so I sent them a message on the patient portal to find that out too. I do know that I was labeled as pre-diabetic last year.

I’m still holding steady at 185-187. That was my original goal. Over the last few weeks I’ve phased in a hybrid diet where I’ve got more freedom but still maintaining my weight. Considering going back full Keto for a couple more weeks to drop another 8-10 pounds, and then transitioning back to a more moderate diet to maintain weight. Congrats fur, rh, and everyone else on your success. WTG and thanks! Aldeer may end up winning some kind of medical health award with all these weight loss success stories! LOL

I'm glad this thread has kept going. Given me inspiration to keep on for sure. Saturday will be 7 weeks and I have dropped 27 lbs as of this morning. Eating better and walking and I haven't felt this good in years. Congrats to the others and keep it up.

I don’t remember what my A1C level was a year ago, so I sent them a message on the patient portal to find that out too. I do know that I was labeled as pre-diabetic last year. Triglycerides can fluctuate day to day depending on diet but the doctor definitely doesn't have a clue saying they would be higher on a keto diet. I can't imagine any scenario they wouldn't be lower on the diet you're on. Simple carbs have a big effect on triglyceride levels. Let us know what your A1c was last year. 5.5 is still right on the verge of prediabetic since anything over 5.6 is considered prediabetic. Doctors and health professionals generally know jack squat about diet and get defensive when told so. I proved it 4 years ago by lowering my A1c from 5.8 to 4.5 in a 3 month period by just cutting processed foods and sugar from my diet when my doctor told me it didn't work like that. I changed doctors right after I proved my point in that 3 month visit. He also wanted to put me on statins with a cholesterol level of 201 after that first check up. I told him a flat no and my follow up visit my cholesterol was 151. I haven't met a doctor yet that didn't love to push pills over a good sustainable diet. In their defense they know most people don't have the will power to go that route. Keep up the good work, brother.

This thread is going to keep going unless I fall off the wagon or until I pass on, or until a moderator gets tired of it and I hope they don’t. LOL If I fall off the wagon, I expect my Aldeer brothers to have an intervention on my behalf. Look up Mark Mattson on YouTube. Or Tedtalks however that works. He has done quite a bit of research on fasting and the brain chemistry it produces. Ketosis produces those same chemicals and you’ll understand why you feel better. I tell people all the time that I’ve lost weight before but I’ve never felt good. Now I know why I feel so good doing keto.

You’ve lost 10 pounds and it’s obvious looking at your face. I’ve lost 42 and can barely tell it in my face. Mine has all been in my legs and gut.

Today marks 4 months since I started the Keto diet. I weighed 311 on 4/4 and I weigh 261 now. That's 50 lbs for you non math heads. I've dropped 4 belt notches. The shirts that were tight on me in April are now extremely over sized. My B&C sized head, is still B&C sized. I still have passing thoughts of eating something sweet. Those thoughts don't occur often anymore. For the past 2 months my weight loss has been very non linear. I'll lose 10 pounds then stall for 2 weeks, then repeat. I am seeing a doctor who specializes in diet and especially keto and she suspects it's insulin resistance that's causing the weight stalls. She told me last visit that she can test for that and I'm going to have that done. The weight stalls have accomplished one huge thing though. I'm not nearly as driven by the number on the scale as I was when I started. I still want to see it drop, but when it doesn't I no longer see it as failure. I view it as part of the process.
Since day one I never had a goal. People are asking me how much weight I want to lose and I really have no answer for that. I just have no plan to go back to eating junk. According to my body, carbs from any source other than green vegetables are junk. I do still eat tomatoes. I read in RH's post about tomatoes causing inflammation with him. I have not noticed that. Having said that, I'm not as dialed in on that as he is. Other than my bad shoulder, and titanium neck, I don't have any "mobility" related joint problems.
My blood pressure is still high. Too high. That is another clue that I don't know the answer for yet. It could be a measure of my insulin resistance but I don't know. When I started eating keto I really thought that I would be off my BP medication by now, but instead of being on one med, I'm now on 2 of them. Regardless, with my continued weight loss, my BP will eventually drop.

It’s time for me to get after it. I keep saying after this or this I’ll start but after getting my yearly physical there’s no better time than right now. My blood work is fine and so is my blood pressure but I weighed in a 300 pounds and my BMI is 41. The highest both has ever been even when I weighed 290 five years ago and lost seventy pounds in less than a year. Thanks for the motivation fellas! Y’all keep it up!

I’m holding steady at 30 lbs lost. I’d like to lose another 30. I hadn’t been super strict in several weeks. Frankly, I have an awful day carbwise now and again. I do push-ups 4-5 days a week. You want something that’ll make your arms and shoulders stronger, do push ups. I mix in some body weight squats and some 30 lb dumbbell curls. I got to crank up a walking/jogging regimen. Had 2 semi-hot older ladies tell me I was getting skinny this week.

FF, are you still watching your salt intake. I know you need some salt on keto but there's nothing that raises blood pressure like too much sodium.

Thanks guys. dagwood, no I'm not watching my salt intake. I drink around 140 ounces of water daily so I have to eat salt. I don't eat bacon or sausage regularly but have noticed that when I do, my BP goes up.
RH, I'm eating less meat, more nuts, eggs, butter, olive oil, etc for fat sources. I still eat a lot of meat but less than I was eating. I'm also getting more fresh green vegetables. Now that it's finished it's time in the churn, I eat some homemade sauerkraut every day too.
