Them suckers will crank in gear! I went & looked at one in Hartselle, it was parked in the mans front yard. He turned the ignition over while standing beside the tractor, if it had cranked it would’ve went right through his house! Dangerous

Dangerous ONLY if the clutch safety and/or neutral safety switch is faulty or has been bypassed. Best thing bout it was It had a 4 speed pto . Most tractors have one speed. Yep and the decal on the fender shows what speeds the different positions give. When I first got mine I had my bush hog running so fast it should have lifted off like a helicopter.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Any bad thing I know bad about biying from him is the paint they use fades pretty fast . Other than that , all good stuff . It's a single stage paint so it will polish out like a shiny new dime if one were so inclined.

Yes, only when someone disabled the switch. And yes, that's dangerous. The guy at Fredricks told me that the reason for PTO speeds is the Japanese (Lots of them used them in rice farming) used the PTOs to run stuff like water pumps, so that was the reason for the multiple speeds. The Japanese grey market imports all have multiple speeds, but the US market tractors all just have one speed, 540.

Judging by the size of Fredricks Lake Compound on Smith, there’s a WHOLE LOT of margins in everything h3 sells. His prices on the Mahindras were the same as other tractor dealers I've talked with. Honestly, I think the margins on ALL tractors are very high. When you compare their prices to new cars, which are way more complicated and have to meet all kinds of safety and emissions standards and all the extra pieces, interiors, glass, etc... Tractors seem oddly expensive to me compared to cars. I guess since tractors are used (in most cases) to earn money that's where the dealers figure they got folks over a barrel. It's also probably the reason that used tractors hold their resale value so much, because a new one is so expensive.

There is a lot more steel in a tractor, the axels, transmissions, tires, cooling systems, and just about everything else is way heavier duty, aka more expensive to produce (think how much steel It takes to build a transmission/axel housing). Plus they have separate hydraulic syatems that are far more complex/heavy duty than what is found in the automotive world. Tractors are subject to safety emissions standards also.

True, plus compare tractors to the price of diesel trucks, for a better comparison.

In the car comparison I was thinking more about complexity and labor vs materials. I know in my world labor is always more expensive than materials.
You guys are probabaly right, but I do think it would be interesting to see a comparison between the profit margin of automobiles vs tractors. I'm sure the margin on tractors are more (especially large tractors), but also keep in mind that there are probably 50 cars produced for every 1 tractor....probably even more than that. Similar to the comparison between Chevy and Mercedes.

You must have me on ignore. What did I do? ![wink wink](/forum/images/graemlins/default/wink.gif) I don't have anyone on ignore. I was just joking at you because I told you about the Fredrick's tractors at the beginning of your other thread. I think you are probably getting a good buy on the tractor you are getting. Mine is a 2210d, and I've had it 4 years now. I also have a 75 hp JD that is now 7 years old, and I think the Yanmar is more reliable because it is less complex. I like to work on things myself when I can, and I have a lot better chance of that with the Yanmar. Join up over on the Yanmar forum of tractorbynet and there are several guys there who can tell you how to fix anything that comes along. Just remember that these are dinky tractors, and you have to consider that as you work them. But it's still a tractor, and not a lawnmower. I haven't found any job that my JD will do that the Yanmar won't do - it just takes more time with the smaller tractor. When you are only keeping up a few acres, the extra time is insignificant. I haven't found any use for the higher PTO speeds. That was probably useful in a rice paddy, but not so much here. It is loud, but so is the JD. I use ear plugs when running either of them. And as someone said, it is possible to blow a head gasket. I think that is more an issue of small tractors than it is a Yanmar issue. Some folks get a 20 up tractor and hook it up to 5' equipment and run it just like it was a 50 hp. That's always a good way to break something. Good luck with it.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.
