I have moved to the Jasper area and want to hunt Bankhead forest, but it looks to me like it is fragmented by private land. Is private land posted? How can I be sure I'm not off the forest property? Thanks!

the easiest and most reliable way is to download onX maps. the other way to do it is to use a GPS and download an overlay for the NF/WMA boundaries.

If I remember correctly Southwood’s #1 tip (from his hunting tips 101 video) is to ask around for good hunting spots. I think he even used Bankhead as an example. Oh, and no better place than aldeer to get these free prime huntings spots. No scouting needed.

I use the GPS method on google earth for desktop, save to google drive, import to google earth app on phone, viola, boundaries.

OnX is the answer for sure. I’ve never hunted Bankhead but I’m sure like other public lands some private property is marked better than others.

I have leases that border Bankhead and post mine very well because sometimes in places the line isn’t marked very well. At the border there’ll be red striped trees and yellow signs. I highly recommend OnX maps. Their lines are accurate to the tree in most cases.

I live 5 miles from Bankhead. I would give up deer hunting if Bankhead was the only place I had to go.Big deer but they are few and far between. Much better hunting in the valley. Better be in good shape to hunt the Bankhead Forest.

You need to find better spots in Bankhead. We have a couple that are jam up and no I won’t share locations. I’ll give you a little advice though. We have much better luck on smaller properties.

I’ve lived here all my life. I know some good spots. I see way more deer in the Valley. You can hunt for days and not see anything in Bankhead.

By the valley do you mean north of Bankhead in the Tennessee River valley?
