Thanks for the offer! I can't figure out which one I need. Mine seems to be an oddball in that the keyswitch is on the boat control panel, while the kill switch is tied in to the F/R lever. The Killswitch is part of the cranking switch on most outboards. I would need some directions and help to first figure out if yours will fit.

I have no idea of what is a fair price, but replacing the switch is surely a better idea than to rig it the way I was talking about.

Just let me know. I have the entire control complete with key switch, two keys, kill switch, trim button. I can unbolt it and send it to you. It was hooked up and running a 2007 TLR 50 about 2 months ago.

Both should be standard bullet connectors on the back of the switch, it should work fine AS LONG AS you can figure out that yellow goes to yellow, red goes to red, so on and so forth..... grin

I can figure out the colors, but what happens to me on mechanic jobs would be something like one of the wires will break way back in the boat, and when I try to pull it out I will break off the livewell switch, and break something else when trying to fix that. smile

It's always the old joke about trying to drain the swamp and then the alligators show up. Start messing around with the wiring on a 9 yr old boat and the alligators will come.

So is a switch like this one?

I only need the keyswitch, and I need one from a motor like this that has the kill switch on the F/R lever. I don't wanna replace anything except the keyswitch. I don't know if this is the standard setup for a Yamaha. Most of the aftermarket switches have the Killswitch as part of the keyswitch unit, and I don't want to wind up with 2 kill switches on it.

Thanks!

May be a dumb question but have you ohm’d the wires from the switch to the motor to make sure you haven’t got a broken wire between the motor and the switch?

No, I haven't tried anything like that. There is no slack at all in the wiring at the control panel and I will have to take the switch loose from it before running any sort of test like that. I only yesterday got the prime start to actually work for the first time, and I haven't had time to check further. I did take the panel loose and shine a light into it, and it appears that the wires are all connected. I guess there could be a short in the wire, but I think a bad switch is more likely.

Edit: I pulled the panel off and there is no way to get to the wires to test it without taking the switch out.
I want to fish some this week, and I can use it as is. In fact, it cranked ok this morning without even using the prime start. That's the first time it has done that.

PCP run some Ring Free through it this week as you fish. It should make a big difference in cranking and running. Also, try the Pennzoil Sythetic blend oil. My motor seems to run really good on that oil. Better than the Yamalube, imo.

Thanks! So is your switch the same? How much you want for if it is?
