Seems like most folks treat the saddle stand as a harness and don't actually wear a harness. For those that use a saddle and don't wear a safety harness, why is that? The saddle is your harness. It's pretty much just a tree stand harness without the shoulder straps, mine has under the leg straps and everything. And the way your tether hooks to the saddle it's pretty much impossible to turn over upside down and fall out of it. If your stand fails, what's there to catch you? Don’t be bringing all that firefighter safety stuff up in here! I’ll definitely be keeping the cut-on-contact broad heads at the house when I’m hunting out of it. 😂

I can't remember the last time I climbed a tree. Do have a lock on with a section steps. Mostly tripods and the occasional house.

I've seen guys use backup tethers as redundant safety lines but with everything being climbing rated at over 5000lb breaking strength I wouldn't think that a catastrophic failure would be a high probability. I just put my trust in the gear and hope for the best.

Y'all fellers that are a saddling up are yuns using climbing steps and aiders or yuns using tree climbing gaffs I’m using my lone wolf climbing sticks for now, I’m replacing the top steps with a double from doublestep.com. I will eventually get a platform and use my sticks to climb to the tree.

Think I will stick to a 15 ft ladder stand ^^^this^^^ this just sounds like a lot of trouble.....thank God we don't have to climb trees to shoot turkeys in the face.

I took the plunge and ordered a mantis today. I have a lineman’s belt, and tether so I saved a little there. I will get a platform down the road I’ve got sticks and some steps for now.
My question is for y’all that have a mantis or other saddle do you use the rope man ascenders? I’ve looked on saddlehunter.com and they have mixed reviews.

I’m definitely getting a ropeman 1 for my lineman belt but think I’ll stick with the prusik on my tether. I may change my mind about that later too though.

I agree with y’all 💯. I will definitely get one for my lineman’s rope, I see a few guys with them on there tether and wondered if it made adjustments a little easier when your in the tree.

That would be impressive if he actually simulated a stand failure.

I have the whole TETHRD setup. The ropeman 1 is the ticket on the lineman and tether. It allows you to stand or sit quick. I’ve got the 2 way Gibbs ascender for my flip line (lineman’s). It allows you to go above limbs without disconnecting. Something to look at unles you trim limbs on your way up. https://www.google.com/shopping/product/1?q=Gibbs+Klimair+Flipline+Adjuster&client=safari&hl=en-us&biw=414&bih=719&tbs=vw:l,ss:44&prmd=sinv&sxsrf=ACYBGNQzRAtVxWVS2S-QhJJIc5vOA434FA:1570740361474&prds=num:1,of:1,epd:10115098649423819759,paur:ClkAsKraX7O0ugfp1WzPS7QwZ0ZFYzBWMLDBv93modHHxk68lv6fpH9LjS3w_8A6Hz2DdxZ96QQnYUEfzUO4Qsm_X-xx11AE0k0G2BDdbBLPhNImozHutg5uEhIZAFPVH706K-UFOLrdcRgYcGFsl7QQ_dpB9A,prmr:1,pid:10115098649423819759,cs:1
