On a hang and hunt setup, I don't see the benefit of a drill over a screw in step. On an initial setup, there probably isn’t any, however, if you return to that tree later in the season, you would be able to climb much quicker as the holes you drilled are already there. I can carry more bolts comfortably than steps. The drill, bolts and loc on is the most efficient way that I’ve ever found to climb a tree. What steps were you using? EZ climb folding step I use the EZ Climb step that doesn’t fold. Very packable, quiet, and very easy to use. Those and a lock on are the perfect mobile setup.
