I just checked out a couple of videos that appear to be basically the same thing....in fact, they're doing it with just 1 stick.
Gotta say, this has me seriously reconsidering the thought of buying a climber...

You can do it with one but that first stick gets my lanyard where it needs to be...makes it alot quicker for me...it can be physical tho.

I just don't see how that's an advantage over a climber. With your method you still have to carry two stick sections and the stand plus all your gear. You have to reach down and undue a section that you just tightened enough to support your weight and then repeat the process to advance up the tree. My Summit climber is compact and has carrying straps. You attach once at the base of the tree, then sit down and start climbing. More power to you.  sticks can easily get around limbs - with a climber, you either have to saw or find another tree; also, even the quietest climbers make noise, esp on a pine tree ... but 6/half dozen of another - hunt how you feel comfortable & enjoy; there's pro's & con's to each method in my mind ... i've used both over the years, and just lean towards steps/sticks/lock-on's personally ...

Thats correct...its just how i do it...id still like to have me a lone wolf climber if i dont have to walk far but thats rare for me...and it would help when i get to hunt with a rifle which is rare...theys alot of ways to get up trees...

Ive drilled trees but im not keen on it but i do have 2 ez cut hand drills and another one from a dude who Built them in ohio...warren womack had some good videos on the woodpecker drill...ive also hung stands with my tree hooks...i climbed power poles by trade so i came by that honest as a personal learned skill...but i had to come up with ways to climb that didnt hurt trees when i ran out of private land...so far..the way i get up trees and hang a stand now is the best way ive done it yet..to me...i can hang a loc on blindfolded...but just cause i have done it alot.

Since we can't drill holes in trees on public, I use the Wild Edge steps. Jim Stepp came up with them years ago, and now some other guy owns the patent. They can be a little bit of a b*tch to set up, but once you get the hang of it you can get up and down a tree no problem. I also use an "aider" to get higher with fewer actual steps. P.S. I'm a saddle hunter, and I don't draw 70lbs.  I'm using the WE steps as well except with the knaider/swaider method of climbing. I can get 20+ ft with only four steps. It sure is a light way to hunt.

EZ climb folding step I use the EZ Climb step that doesn’t fold. Very packable, quiet, and very easy to use. Those and a lock on are the perfect mobile setup.
