So far we have lost two straps and almost lost the metal siding vent that covers the back of the refrigerator hole. With a little bit of rigging hopefully we can roll on a little further.

Well I finally got a signal. We scouted yesterday all day and started hunting today. We have seen a ton of deer scouting and seen several this morning while hunting. Just no shooters yet. This morning we was bumping deer all the way into the trees we climbed then 30 minutes later we started seeing deer. Biggest from a tree was a 105” eight point. These bucks are scent checking the the edge of these ridges about 20 yards from the top walking with the ridges. Hunters started rolling in yesterday and they all say this is the week. From everything I have seen and gathered, the small bucks 1 1/2 year olds are starting to chase. I haven’t seen a buck take a bite of anything yet. All noses to the ground. This afternoon I’m hunting a trail coming around a bluff in the hardwoods. The thick stuff is behind me 15 yards. This is some rough hunting with all these hills. I got to go, time to hit this grunt call........

No good this afternoon. Went based on deer sign last year and that was a mistake. It was no acorns last year and this year it is. Totally different.

Hunting out of boat for the first time. Hunting a ridge top this morning. I had a 120” at 20 yards. He was scent checking and eat a couple of red oaks and continued on his journey. Bumped deer all the way to the top of this ridge. These hills and hollows are dang right rough. I can see standing corn about a mile away. Got to get back to hunting........

Huge 10 pt. No shot. 4 bucks following one doe. She smelled me and took a couple hops opposite direction and they followed. I had him walking straight away at 32 yards and just couldn't make myself pull the trigger. Two more steps and he would have been broad sided at 28 yards. Damn damn damn.

I’m back in same spot as this morning, but I moved on the down wind side of were the deer was walking this morning. If they will do the same thing they did this morning I will have a 10 yard shot. I Went all the way to the truck after crossing the creek in the boat just for two bologna sandwiches and a nutter butter. Well before I could hit post reply, I busted a pretty big 8 point. Damn this is awesome. I got to sit tight, because I got a buddy hunting with me. Looked like a good shot, but it straight down, so no pass through. He was burning the woods up with his tail tucked and belly to the ground. It’s going to be a hell of a drag if we find him, because he went straight over the ridge and straight away from the boat. Hot damn I’m excited and got to sit tight for 4 more hours.

If I find him it will be about 2am before I get back to camp. I about flipped our little boat this morning, so it’s going to be tricky to get him across. Boat barely floats with 410 pounds in it. Deer was big bodied and thats why I haven’t said how big he was, hard to tell how big rack is with these big deer. I will put it this way, there was no second guessing on being a shooter for me, but then again I’m no trophy hunter.

I hit him high, but I’m high also. No pass through and 12” of arrow sticking out. I could see blood coming out as he whirled, but I don’t figure it will be much blood on the ground with that kind of hit. He was hauling ass in the death run. I will just have to stumble up on him probably. I know it’s in his pumping station and he can’t live. Just finding him without blood will be hard, but I’m in wide open hardwoods. Lot of thinking going on in this tree. It’s probably that 120” I let walk this morning. I can’t see as it is and had a straight down view instead of a side view like earlier. I hope my buddy kills that huge 10pt. That would be great!

I’m no outlaw, but what if I had a 200” deer walk by at 20 yards now? Could you handle it? Could you stay a legal hunter? I just wish it would hurry up and get dark.......... After replaying that shot thru my head several times I've determined I over shot that 8pt 🤣

Topo map shows I’m 200 + feet above the boat in elevation. So I know 350 yards atleast will be straight down hill. Almost truth time. I will check back in soon.......

If the creek is not to wide you might can tie 1 rope to the front and another to the back, let one man cross then the second pull the boat back. Put the deer in and man #1 pulls it across. Man #2 pulls the boat back then crosses. Just a though but wish I would have put it out there while you had 4 hrs to spare.

Deer float pretty good too. I've floated 2 outta duck ponds. Don't know if i wouldn't just tie the buck to the side of the boat and float it out?
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Fine deer. I really enjoyed following this

The picture above is my view for this afternoons hunt. I’m more or less just hanging out in the tree. The rut is on! We are seeing bucks every climb, but my buddy just hasn’t had luck on his side. The 140” 10 point I took a picture of yesterday was just out of my friends shooting range 1 hour before I seen him. He is back after him today. Hopefully he will tag out. I’m on the same ridge but 500 yards away from him, so he has it to himself. I’m hunting deep, way deep...... I would love to see one of these Ohio giants while up a tree. This is some of the best hunting I have ever did, but you must be mad at them to hunt up here. The drag the other night was just damn right terrible. The boat has went a little under water twice, once in the front and once in the back. It creates a huge pucker factor, when it’s 8’ deep and very strong current. Especially with our equipment in the boat.

It’s a ton of land, so not crowded at all during bow season. Now there gun season they say is ridiculously overcrowded.
