I've listened to some of his stuff while driving.

What he says is pretty basic stuff. Live under your means, avoid debt, pay cash, save, invest, etc.

It speaks poorly of us as the richest country that the populace doesn't understand such things.

We really need to start teaching basic personal finance during primary education.

Dave Ramsey ranting about credit cards is absolutely HILARIOUS.

He would tell someone with a networth that looked like a phone number, humble lifestyle & zero debt, "you're playing with snakes and gonna get bit!!!" if they said they use credit cards to put purchases on and pay them off each month.

I think his system is great. Basic and nothing earth shattering but a good system. I despise debt and always have. I can think of dozens of people I know who will finance a vacation or a vehicle and struggle like hell to make the payment each month. No thank you. Debt sucks

People can’t manage money. If you can make the payment that must mean you can afford it, that’s folks mentality these days.

I love finding a financing option like that. We financed our tractor at 0% and it was awesome.

If your like me you hate having to deal with it at all. I paid off a lawn mower recently after having it financed at 0% over a 4 year term. I had it on the books around 10 months. It’s gone and I’m glad.

Autopay...what is there to deal with?
The money elves move the funds each month and there is zero effort or labor required on your part.

Don’t get me wrong, I prefer to pay cash for everything. Actually, I prefer to use my AMEX and them pay it off every month and collect the air miles.

I know it’s there and it bugs me. I sleep better at night knowing I don’t have it put there. I’m probably crazy but it is what it is.

I can’t blame you there. I’m going to take this approach soon. Wrapping up a home build and think I’m going to get a cc for this very purpose. Probably should have done so before I spent a small fortune in furniture and other crap for the house. It’s nice knowing it’s all paid for though I will say that.

my buddy told me this a long time ago...
Base your bills on 2 weeks pay
Base your folding money on one weeks pay
Take the last weeks pay and put it back.

Said you’d always be set...

I don’t follow that rule, but I’m not in deep debt either, I just like to get by and have a good time in between, and make sure my kids are taken care of.

X2. I'd much rather swipe my amex and pay it off every month. It's sad Ramsey is seen as some kind of prodigy for his simpleton money management "techniques."

I have a cc that I use occasionally. It gets paid immediately. His advice is simple, but most folks can't handle debt.

He's made an entire career and become a millionaire many times over when everything can be summed in three words, Don't be stupid.
I've really got no idea why he's got the cult following he does.

Jack Bogle, Peter Lynch & Charlie Munger are men that have actually added real value, they haven't said the same canned lines day after day on the radio.

That’s pretty solid advice - wish I were diligent about following that advice.
