I don't think any animal has ever been in the process of dying and thought "well, you know the guy shot me with a .300wm, so I'm cool with it."

My dogs jumped this one years and another buck years ago. They came by my dad, he dumped 5 3.5 mags in him at around 50 yards the deer split up my dogs stayed with this one and the other buck ran by my Ex FIL. He shot at the other buck one time, I followed the gps to this deer about 100 yards past where dad shot, deer was dead cause dogs wasn’t bayed, they just hushed. Got up to him and a old man that was hunting with us had done cut the DEAD deers throat. “It made a loop and fell about 50 yards behind him”. That pissed me off to no end cause this was the biggest buck my dad had killed. Well, then about that time my ex FIL comes down and says “that’s my buck I shot at it”, I said no Travis, this deer didn’t go near you the other one did, I can show you the blood and gps trail, he wouldn’t hear nothing of it. He walked up on the deer and just claimed it, I lost my shucks that day, cussed him out loaded my dogs up and left. To this day that old man still cuts a dead deers throat. But bet that sob won’t cut anyone else’s from no own. I got a Divorce the next year and my ex FIL took the deer to the taxidermy, they got him a cape and mounted it for him. After he got it back I went to his house one day to get my girls “my ex wife lives with them” and my youngest daughter was like, Look daddy, paw law got his buck back! I said I see that, I looked at my ex FIL and said you should name that deer Louie “my dads name” since he’s the one that killed it! 🤣

I still get pissed off thinking about that to this day.

Shoot em then go slap a bandage on the wound. If the deer is dead lay your body on top of his say a prayer like the prophets of old and watch the deer run off.
