I’m not ‘fishing’ at all. I don’t like the hunting over bait. I’ll get over it eventually. Perhaps sooner rather than later. Maybe.
I don’t really want my sons first kill to be nose down on a corn pile. It just doesn’t seem right for it to be that way. To each their own. No one if forcing you to put out bait.

Baiting, was pretty much going on EVERYWHERE before it was made legal. Pretty much why I got disgusted with it and hung it up. I’m baaack! Not EVERYONE was baiting. I’d say the majority of people I caught were Gen X and Boomers. But I agree, I hung it up for the most part too. But mostly because I can’t sit in a box and wait for a deer to pass. I used to have virtually free roam if an amazing 7100 acre property that I could truly “stalk”. Hunting was a true experience. So much do that I could get more enjoyment out if the stalk than the kill. Also, because I refuse to give a dime to AL DCNR, but we all know that story. I fish in other states. I’ll hunt in other states. My concern is if all this rotting corn is going to affect my turkey population. I may or may not turkey hunt I’m Alabama. And I may it may not hunt buy an Al license for it. 🤪

Thundersnatch is back.
Should we tell her that the 'other' states have allowed baiting for deer for many years and the hunting is no good because of it?

I arrived at processor at 4:30 today and 4 other guys were checking in deer on front of me. I was shocked. Unusual for this time of year.
Something is happening. Maybe it was just the day to be in a tree, but I've never seen it like this prior to rifle opener.
The processor also confirmed they are up, year over year.

Should we tell her that the 'other' states have allowed baiting for deer for many years and the hunting is no good because of it? All states don’t allow baiting deer, and many of the ones that do dont have the massive natural food sources Alabama has. Y’all may want to read the studies that have been done in how supplemental feed/ bait affects the hog populations, turkey disease rates, chronic wasting disease and South Carolina’s study of hunter success rates in areas where baiting is allowed vs. areas where prohibited. But baiting isnt why I don’t give my money to Alabama, anyway. I’ve hunted Kentucky farms where bait was present and could have killed young bucks and does over the bait trough. Even though i don’t care too much about trophy bucks, I just choose not to take those opportunities. I’m more about the sport and the overall experience. I no longer care if someone shoots a deer over corn, I just won’t be giving y’all any high fives for your participation trophy kills.

I turned my dogs loose on a corn pile over the weekend for the youth season. I did this just to see how many Aldeer members I could piss off at one time. I did not have a gun since it was youth hunt, but next weekend I will do it while holding a 6.5 Creedmore. So y'all hold on I'm not sure there will be any deer left for the rest of you after that.

Kansas has an abundance of natural food sources that Alabama could only dream about - endless acres of soybean and corn fields. 😀 In fairness the bucks I've shot and my friends have shot over the years in Kansas have NOT been at the corn feeders. Maybe a couple, but these guys have been going to the same area for over 10 years and have killed a couple dozen BIG deer, and the big boys don't come to the feeders.

If ya’ll are just trying to “feed the family”, have at them does and spikes wandering to the feeder. If you’re after the big boys or the experience of the hunt, sitting over a pile of candy corn isn’t really going to help. Like I said, Alabama isn’t getting my money anyway, so I don’t really have a dog in the fight.

I notice several of the folks on this thread who are "all in" on baiting, have been some of the most vocal about the dwindling deer population in the state...wanting the state to "do something" about it.
I'm not sure how they reconcile that in their minds.
Surely, they can't think that LESS deer will be killed now that baiting is legalized, right?

No amount of fact, truth or logic will change the mind of an idiot. Half if these goobers think a green field is the same as a pile of corn. Don't waste your time trying to educate a brain dead idiot.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

The oaths you've taken require you to keep "a dog in the fight". You swore to support our Constitutions " ... as long as I'm a citizen thereof" in your state oath of office. Your military oath requires you to support and defend our Constitutions as well. Our Constitutions recognize and protect our right to hunt. The Holy Bible defines hunting as a right granted by God for food. You are still bound by your oaths to support our right to hunt as well as all our other rights.
