I would not recommend using any type of "antler trap" that catches the antler. You can cause an antler to be ripped off earlier than what Nature intended, ending up with pedicle damage and a deformed antler for life. X2!

I agree, and I think even more importantly might be the potential for brain abscesses. SCWDS briefs recently had an article about the number of buck skulls found that showed some evidence to suggest a brain abscess as a potential cause of death. I don't remember the exact pecentage, but it was a lot.

Dr. B You can make them with dog wire and T post placed in a "V" or "W" shape. You put corn in the V's of the wire, and when a buck sticks his head in to get the corn, the wire knocks off the antlers if they are close to loosing them.

I agree as well, get out and do it the old fashion way and look for them after they have shed.

Bugfixer is right. They can be made with hogwire. its too big to trap, only there to knock loose ones off.Chicken wire on the other hand is bad and ,should never be used.

I saw a video on youtube of a guy that put corn out under a deadfall which caused the bucks to work their way under limbs and the trunk of a tree that was 8-12 inches off the ground. He said that it had worked for him before. I put some out last weekend in a deadfall with a camera on it. I will see how that works. Last year they started shedding in this area in March. I should be timing it pretty good.
