So Whild Bill and I were pontificating last evening over a nice Old fashion pour, and came to the conclusion that while Hunting is great time spent in the outdoors, the spoils of harvesting a deer are just sort off a letdown (Talking whitetail specifically obviously not Elk) I mean, I'm okay with a fried Cube steak or Chili, but surely we all can agree that any ground deer made in the form of a burger or the breakfast sausage just can't compete with what they sell at the local Piggly Wiggly. It's nice to find things we can all agree on, right fellas?? Everyone at my house enjoys deer just as good as a good beef filet but we cook it all sorts of ways.hard to beat a plain marinated and lightly grilled deer tenderloin but we like all meat and taters and we ain't picky.

Dude I will make you some venison poppers that will change your mind! Use cubed venison stuffed with jalapeno and cream cheese wrapped in bacon and marinated in dales grilled to perfection. It will make a dog break a chain! But if you took beef and made beef poppers how much better would they be. Venison cant compare to beef but I enjoy them both.

We wasn’t talkin about deer tenders. Yes they is good. It was about ground meat. A old rutty buck ground meat just ain’t that good. Deer burgers v beef burgers. Most of our buck meat goes to feeding yotes in our kid blocks of land.

I make a lot of jerky. My son likes it. I do too. I’ve got to make some of those jalapeño poppers. You use whole pickled jalapeños halved, right? I’ve got a back strap in the freezer. Might make them for the in-laws Christmas gathering.

I call them “roll-ups” when I make them. Cut the bacon in 1/3’s. Take a bite sized piece of cubed steak, (sometimes I use cut pieces of tenderloin but I prefer cubed meat) pickled jalapeño pepper, and a little piece of cream cheese. Roll all that together and stab with a toothpick or two. Then drop them in a bowl of zesty Italian dressing for 24 hours. Cook on the grill at 400ish until the bacon is done but not burned. Let rest for 3-5 minutes and enjoy. Still isn't as good as a steak........

If a deer tasted like beef I would be unemployed. The only way that deer meat has a taste is when it’s full of smoking mirrors. Rather it be cream cheese, bacon wrapped, stuffed with Juan’s jalapeños peppers or marinated for days with some sauce full of salt.

Rather it be cream cheese, bacon wrapped, stuffed with Juan’s jalapeños peppers or marinated for days with some sauce full of salt. A fresh backstrap with just a little olive oil and sea salt and a red hot grill tastes better to me than a $40 steak. I like steak too but I guess I’m one of the few people that actually prefers the taste of venison over beef.

I definitely prefer my venison burgers over beef hamburgers. Didn't really notice a big difference going to venison from beef, then I ran out of venison and bought some beef for burgers and I didn't like them nearly as good. I trim all deer fat and most of the silver, then mix in 10% beef fanta and grind 3xs. Patty them out then salt, pepper and garlic on the outside and cook over hot coals. A slice of provolone and some carmelized onions makes it perfect.
May the sound of hounds never die!
