Another thought - since he was running wide open and then just vanished, it sounds like he went down for good. You might have walked by him in a thick cutover and simply not seen him. If you can’t find a good dog, then I’d be grid-searching that place. You might also get back up where you shot from, and have someone walk out in the cutover (with a lot of orange on) and maybe you can direct them to the last place you actually saw the buck.
Good luck - hope y’all find him.

Good luck - hope y’all find him. Exactly. Daylight will make a world of difference. I don’t know how to handle the fact there will probably be 2 to 4 orange hats on that gas line in the morning.

It’s going to rain tonight. Get some lights and some friends and go back tonight. I tend to agree

I have a dog but she is only about 50% and struggles if there is absolutely 0 blood but she could possibly wind it anyway if it's a buck and dead. If you cant find anyone with a good dog let me know. Ben 2055669691 Thanks. We’re sitting back right now. Someone is sitting 50 yards from the point of impact. Got here as early as we could, but his mother is on call and not dragging him out of bed at 4am.

Happen to see any buzzards this morning? No, but don’t know if we should since there is a bright orange hat nearby.

I know I'm late to the conversation, but next time, bring you a spray bottle full of peroxide. It will bubble up on the blood. One of the biggest bucks I ever shot at did the same exact thing you described. The bullet cut his chest hair off. Hope you find him bud.
