How do you do the intermittent fasting? I dropped 12 lbs but am stuck there. I admit I have been cheating lately.

I eat 6 hours a day and don’t eat 18 hours a day

Don't eat for 16+ hours stretches. For example, I haven't eaten since ~8:15PM Sunday. I have had a few cups of BLACK coffee this morning, but it doesn't have enough calories to consider my fast broken. Drinking lots of water as well. I won't have anything to eat until after 12:15PM today. That will give me 16 hours. I'll eat whatever between 12:15PM today and 8:00PM ish tonight, then start the fast over.
I try to do this cycle Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday I eat any time.
IF works well in conjuction with a low carb diet, but it isn't required. Plenty of people loss weight with just IF because you typically reduce your caloric intake by limiting the hours you eat daily.
Good luck with it. It is pretty easy for me because I don't have to go to bed hungry, and I've never been big on eating in the morning any way.

The easiest thing I have done is join weight watchers and download their app. I joined based off a recommendation from a friend whop dropped 30 pounds in about 3 months. It's all based on points. Eat whatever you want, just stay within your points. I start the Monday after Thanksgiving and dropped 10lbs in 2 weeks. I put 4 of it back on during Christmas feasting but I'm back to my ww routine starting yesterday. It's been very easy.

If you've cheated, you could be out of ketosis.

Dang, Molyp, I've been doing that and didn't realize it. I eat when I get home about 5pm and don't eat again until about 10 the next day. My problem is I'm not exercising.

I doubt that. Most likely it’s what you’re putting in your mouth. I haven’t exercised at all. Intermittent fasting helps kick you deeper into ketosis. Ketosis helps burn fat. There’s lots and lots of information out there that talks about not exercising to lose weight. Exercise stimulates your appetite so most people eat more which negates weight loss. Fasting improves your metabolism which also helps lose weight.

The intermittent fasting puts your body into a state called Autophagy. What it does is to help heal your body, Basically the body will start cannibalizing it's own cells to rebuild when food is stopped for long enough. In this state the body can much better get rid of free radicals and heal oxidation stress. The benefit of being in Ketosis is that you can enter this state in about 14-16 hours rather than about 24 if not in Ketosis. In this state the body will get rid of damaged cells rather than leaving them alone to keep causing problems.

When on the fast however it is important to not take in any calories at all and possibly even anything that tastes sweet.I won't have so much as a piece of gum or Tic Tack during a fast. Only black coffee, unsweetened green tea and water. I have been doing 16-8 for about 8 months but I'm working a lot more towards a 20-4 every day. I am not doing it because I have to but because at this stage I just don't get hungry for a lot longer.

If anyone wants to start doing it,just work up to it. When you get use it it yo won't have the insulin spikes that frequent eating causes and you will have good energy and not be hungry during the fast. In fact thare are lots of studies that say it really helps mental function. The body kicks into super hunter mode with heightened awareness and ability when it really needs to find food. It's a survival mechanism.

To lose weight just stop all sugar, processed foods ,bread and pasta. I have lost 160 lbs in 15 months but have been pretty stable now for a few months. I'm 6' 1" and weigh 170 now. I was wearing 48-32 jeans and now wear 29-32 jeans. I didn't start until I turned 50. I weighed over 300 lbs for more than 20 years. If I can do this ,anyone can.

I wonder how hard this may be (if at all) being a diabetic with pills and insulin? Here lately I can’t get my sugar down but noticed if I go several hours I get headaches.. but not necessarily hungriness.. I need to lose at least 50+ lbs myself

My wife decided for us we would do the intermittent fasting I and cut out all processed sugars. We eat from 11 am from 7 pm. I eat what she cooks or prepares without complaint. Still have a beer and cocktail when I want, as this is not strict KETO. She is finally losing the weight she has been trying to lose for a long time thru a lot of different methods. I did it just to support her nd I dropped 12 pounds . I cannot explain why it works, but it has worked for us. Now I weigh about what I did when I graduated college 32 years ago. Feel good, eat big portions of what she prepares and never hungry.Lots of meat, salad, vegetables and nuts. Unsweetened coffee and tea, no artificial sweeteners. Took about 3 months but I am used to it and don't miss the food she cut out.

There's lot's of research to show that the keto diet really helps correct diabetes but I don't know enough about how a diabetic should proceed into the diet to offer any advice. Check out Dr Jason Fung's videos on Youtube. He's done a tremendous amount of research on diabetes. Not as much keto focused as he is intermittent fasting and fasting focused. Tons of info out there that can help you.

I had the 2nd biannual doctors appointment today that I've had since I've been eating Keto. This morning in my birthday suit I weighed 240. At the doctors office with clothes on, I weighed 246. February of 2019 at the same doctors office, on the same scales, I weighed 320. In February I had one pair of pants that I could button. It took every bit of strength that I had to button them. My other work jeans wouldn't button. Size 42 waist. If I had bought new jeans they would have been at least a size 44. Now I'm in a 38 pants. I don't expect to wind up being thin like RH has become. I've never been thin. I wasn't thin when I was 4 years old. I also don't ever remember wearing less than a size 38 pants. I know that's the size I wore through high school. My doctor is thrilled with my progress. He asked me today what my goal was and I told him I'd like to lose 30 more pounds. He told me with my build, I didn't need to lose that much more! It's hard to imagine that a doctor would tell me that, considering where I was less than a year ago. I did get blood drawn, so I'll update my numbers when they come in.

The only lab result I have so far is my total cholesterol. In June of 2018 my total cholesterol was 213 and my triglycerides were 287. After 9 months on a high fat, low carb diet, my total cholesterol is 213. I hope to see my other levels tomorrow. After 3 months on Keto, my triglycerides were already down to 117. I'm guessing they're well below 100 now. Today I ate pork skins for breakfast and a salad and 1/2 rack of ribs (no sauce) for lunch.

How many of you trust the government? Why would we trust them to tell us what's best to eat?

find a doctor -- like this guy -- that's either a) doing KETO or b) endorses it & can advise you; he's specifically addressing Type 2 in this video (and has others on his channel, as well) ...

Please allow me to encourage everyone doing Keto to eat a healthy and clean version. Stay away from processed meats and eat meats that are healthy. Get lots of green vegetables and eat them raw a good bit too. Don't go heavy with oils. I only use a small amount of olive oil. Get plenty of fruits berries, seeds and nuts too. You will have to balance your intake according to how much you need to lose.

The point is that you can do a lot to improve your health and just getting thinner is only part of the solution. Your body needs macro nutrients from a lot of different natural clean sources if you want to feel good as well as lose weight.

So.... Overall my cholesterol readings are better. This is the first time in my adult life that my good cholesterol has ever been in the normal range. It's always been low. VLDL has never been in the normal range either. My LDL's are much better than they were in 18 but I had them checked in July of 19 and they were 117 after only 3 months on Keto. Not sure why they've gone back up, but 171 is a whole lot lower than they've ever run, other than that one reading. As you can see my A1C level is much improved. I was almost to the breaking point on being a diabetic. Not even close now.

I need to get on this train. Ever since I got hurt, had back surgery, then got medically retired from the USMC, I've gained a ton of weight. I'm over 300lbs now and I need to get this weight off ASAP. You guys motivate me.

That's awesome, Brad! Didn't the doctor tell you there was no way you could improve those numbers eating a keto diet?
