I have a Kimber Montana in .308, and hell yeah it's light. If I'm carrying it all day it's my go to. Probably is tough to shoot off hand, but that's personal preference. I love the way it balances and feels.
My other .308 is a Steyr Pro Hunter, that feels like it is twice the weight as the Kimber Montana. Both are shooters off bags and a bench, and both are not shooters off hand. I feel certain it's the shooter's fault off hand though. I have no business shooting at deer beyond a hundred yards off hand with any weapon, except maybe an M203.

I use a newer Kimber Montana in 7mm-08, shoots good enough for me around 1 1/4 @ 100 with 140g Barnes TTSX, but makes up for it by being lite and easy to tote all day!. 1 1/4!!!!!!!?
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Those super lightweight Kimber Montanas are awesome rifles....so long as you have a rest. The lighter they are, the more difficult they are to shoot accurately offhand. I no longer own any of them for that reason alone. I have killed way too many deer at woods ranges offhand over the years to not be able to shoot it more accurately than I could those Kimbers. One of them cost me a giant that I slipped up on, bedded in a cutover. The longer you have to hold it to your shoulder offhand, the more squirrelly things get as fatigue sets in. Just not enough weight to help offset your natural shakes, especially for my old, arthritic, decrepit arse. YMMV I agree 100%! There is such a thing as too light and I no longer own a Kimber or Barrett FC for this very reason. I’ve come to realize that I prefer a 7.5-8# rig for hunting in AL. Put you some high quality European optics on those lighter rifles and you’ll be right at the weight you desire.
