Out of the blue today I get a PM from the administrator lecturing me on advocating taking longer than 40 yard shots on turkeys and threatening to ban me. Really ugly note. Was news to me because I have never violated this policy at Old Gobbler. I PMed him back asking him to show me where I had ever done this at that website and was instantly banned.

Is the guy that runs that place psychotic? Weirdest s### I have ever seen. But you guys can count me out of the contest over there I guess. Sorry to let you guys down but I sure as hell did nothing at that website to warrent this. If it's still possible to search my posts under this same user name I invite you to do so and see if I ever did this or spoke a harms word to a soul over there.

Seems to me like he always takes offense when anybody says anything about Nitro hulls sticking and primers backing out too. He'll probably ban everybody over there that likes hevi-7's.
They give away some good stuff over there and I've learned alot from reading the handloading forums, but the website for the most part is pretty goofy anyway.

I noticed they go to great links to go on record that they don't recommend shots over 40. Kind of weird though because most of the posts in regards to guns, sights, patterns, etc. are about getting the best pattern so that you can kill turkeys at 50 yds.

That's crazy! Who gives a rats arse if you wanna shoot one at 75 yards? It's your bird that is getting boogered up. With the advancement in technology in today's turkey loads, the old 40 yard lead shot is now 50 yards. My dad still shoots lead and will not shoot one past 35 yards but I'll bust ones ass at 50 all day long.

LOL, I don't know, I've never met him, but judging from some of the stuff he is posting I think he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown of some type.

I hadn't read there lately, and then somebody on here linked the article on the bad Nitro shell, so I went over there and read a little. I felt like I was a little child being lectured by a teacher. I tried to show him how irrational some of his censorship was, but could see that was getting nowhere fast. I suspect that I was right on the verge of getting banned myself, so I told him I would just drop it and if anybody wanted to talk to me, I'd be over on aldeer. And I told him that Skinny isn't in to censorship. So he probably meant to ban me and banned you instead , Todd.

As a show of solidarity with Todd, why don't we all boycott Old Gobbler? I hate to see somebody like that making a living off turkey hunters. If nobody else wants to get involved, I'll just put up a post that will be sure to get me banned with you, Todd. I figure a post about my theory that the 40 yard number comes from the Bible ought to work.

And I've never been banned from a web site before. It ought to be a fun experience.

Here's what always bugged me about that kind of stuff: To me, a guy that hunts in a river swamp without decoys where you can see 100 yards through the woods and calls a turkey up to 50 yards and kills him has done alot more as far as tricking a turkey goes than some guy who hides in a tent and shoots one at fifteen yards over decoys.
One guy is praised and the other one is chastised over there, but they're praising the wrong one in my opinion.

Before the leaves get on, there's a few wide open benches where I hunt that if I'm fortunate enough to call up a turkey on one of them, I'll probably have to shoot him at about 45 yards, unless I happen to find a stupid one who is willing to walk right towards a dark blob at the base of a tree when he can't see a hen anywhere. Back in the day before I started using HTL loads, I would just wait til green-up to hunt these places because it was so tough to get a turkey into shotgun range on them. With the technology we have now, I can hunt them and not worry so much about it. Does that make me a bad guy or unethical hunter?

The arrogance of not only him, but several other moderators, turned me off completely from the site a while back. It wasn't that way when he started out several years ago. I guess a little success has changed things. Maybe he has forgotten that the only reason his site became popular in the first place was because posters got fed up with the censorship on the nwtf site.

I'll draw the line at 40 yards with my bow, but I reckon my ethics are somewhat shady when it comes turkey season. I'll soften him up at 65 yards, while running as fast as an old man can get moving, knock him down at 50 yards and close the deal at 40.

How would you react if you found out that you had a friend talking bad about you to some of you neighbors. It wouldnt bode well for that friend now would it! So just remember that what you say somewhere else can come back to bite you in the backside.

I got the same message as YEKRUT. Bird calls one person disrectful then curses in the PM sent to I guess anyone assocaited with aldeer who the matter really doesn't concern. I am by no means a saint but my question would be what if someone's son or daughter looked at the message or read it while daddy was reading it and saw the bi%^&. Funny they call someone disrespectful then send out a PM to Team Alabama with that kind of language even though it is one word i still do not appreicate it. Also they have Christian themed sponors and claim to be a family site which i originally liked. The fact they are so self conscious about their site they have to monitor other sites to see what someone is saying is childish.

Most telling line in the whole cover story PM they sent you. This has nothing to do with anything I posted at their website. I have discovered from guys at another website that it is because I said that I disagreed with their notion of a 40 yard range limit "AT A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WEBSITE." Never said that at their site and simply stated it in a very benign and straight forward manner at another website. Siting as a specific example the hand loaded TSS shells being completely ethical beyond 40 yards. Nothing insulting, just an opinion "At Another Website" that the old 40 yard limit was kind of antiquated given some of the equipment and components in use today. That's it.

So beware, a membership at old gobbler is an agreement for them to follow you all over the internet and censor your right to free speech. Watch what you say to your wife at home tonight. If she rats you out to Bird or Shannon your @$$ will be in the ban boat with me. LOL!

40 is where I pull the trigger, when they get close to that I send him a dirt nap. 35-45 is about avg for me with a few on out there.

ha ha I shoot a SBE 2 28 inch barrel with a Jellyhead and I pattern my shotgun every year to ensure I am deadly at 50 yards with Hevi 13 Mag Blends if thats unethical in some folks eyes then I reckon I am unethical.

I was like the 3rd or 4th member to sign up over there(other than the owners of course), but after about a year grew tired of it. Don't really remember why.

The mighty OG himself has spoken. This whole deal is absurd. They aren't going to be the "high traffic" turkey hunting site he thinks they are if he continues to censor all of his members. Bird is even more pathetic acting like his little peon. Here's the quote

Again , there has been some long posts and discussion about this , everyone understands the reasoning behind it - We are not telling anyone what to do when they go turkey hunting , we are only asking they keep it low key here by posting  it at 40 - and telling them to use their "imagination " on how well it does past that ---  people can continue to do as they please but there will be a effort to maintain a conscientious eye out for influencing others online

Some people posted up longer than 40 yard shots , some even way farther , they were taken down for reasons explained - some objected , we explained - a  member or 2 got rude and disrespectful with me and or the staff in PM's or in smack talk  .....and no we dont circulate Pm's - -  Ive been doing this a while , we know what we are doing when it comes to running a high traffic turkey hunting site - Once a member thinks they can be rude or disrespectful to another member or staff and thinks that they can get away with it , the situation only gets worse - I don't play games - they do it to me , they bounced of the site instantly ....

He banned me because I dared to question the 40 yard limit at a website he has a bad blood history with. The NWTF forums. If he was a real man he would at least man up and admit his real motivations. But he won't because then he would have to admit they ban people for even mildly disagreeing with them "AT ANOTHER WEBSITE."

As for me, I've wasted enough time on the lying psychopath. If running a website has filled him with this much of a god complex one can only imagine what would happen if he got elected treasurer of his local rotary club or something. Probably draft a formal declaration of war and invade Canada.

The opinion of him over at the NWTF forums is pure mud.

I'm a little bummed about the latest downturn of events over at OG.... It's a shame.

There is some history there. About the time OG was started, a bunch of folks got pissed with mods(and members) on the NWTF site and pretty much all went to OG within a few days of each other. I am not sure what the exact issues were(or are) but from the sound of things are still some mutual hard feelings between Old Gobbler and the NWTF sites. (at least that is my perception)
