Well, spent yesterday afternoon with the leasing neighbor and the game warden. After church yesterday morning, I drove through the lease checking gates. From there, I went home and worked a little while, then settled in to watch the late afternoon NFL game. At 3:38, I get dinged by Spartan that I’ve got a photo. I open it and see a pickup sitting on my best food plot. The short version is he tore down 3 gates and went around a fourth and shot one of my locks (didn’t help). I’ve just left the Sheriff’s Office. They’re hoping the picture is enough to catch him. The tag on the truck came back as going on another vehicle. Just can’t have nice things. Landowner has promised any help needed to prosecute if caught.

No. Not going to post picture until LEO’s have a chance to do their job. With my luck, he’d see it here and ditch the truck. This is my third time to see the sheriff in the three years I’ve had the lease.

Does shooting the lock off a gate in order to trespass constitute using a gun during commission of a crime? And doesn't that make the charge greater? or did I just imagine that?

Hopefully they'll hurry up and get him nailed down so you can post a pic. If it's in coosa county I'd be interested to see if I know the perp

I am working on this same thing, only they are coming in on foot and stealing everything except for the trees... Also, now have proof that they are hunting on our lease. Deputies have all info about stolen property and met the GW in person yesterday to see if we can "nip it in the bud".

If I had a simple trespassing issue, like someone just slipping in and hunting on my property, I'd definitely involve the game warden and law enforcement and try to get it handled that way. If someone is going to the extent they are willing to destroy property, steal , poach and purposely trying to send me a message that they are going to make it miserable for me, I'm not telling anyone. Those types can't be deterred by the law.

A little bit of an update: I was sitting at home Monday night of last week and received a text from the guy that manages the lease for the owner. Lo and behold, the trespassers truck was sitting in the parking lot of the Sylacauga Walmart. He takes more pictures of the truck and gets the tag number. He was with his family or I imagine he would have waited him out. Anyway, this information was passed on to the GW and SO Investigator. I talk to the GW last Wednesday. He ran the plate and had a name, but had turned it over to the Investigator. As of yesterday, I have heard nothing from the SO. I wondering how much longer I wait before asking.

There was another guy that was a problem. The Warden stopped him and four others recently for Game and Fish violations. It was discovered that he had warrants from Talladega county and was turned over to them. He has been in jail since. People I know that live in the area are talking about how much less shooting is going on in the area at night since his arrest. The rumor is he spotlighted 15 bucks this season prior to his arrest.

Is his mom a bodybuilder?

I don't know if she's a bodybuilder or not. She's in her 70's at least. The last time I saw her, she was driving down the road with her car door wide open.
