If your state's permit process involves a background check, like Georgia's does, then you never have to get a background check called in when you buy a gun.
The fact that the feds DON'T get notified every time I spend a little cash is reason enough for me to not want GA to change to constitutional carry. I'm fine with the permit, even though I know that it doesn't stop criminals.
Also helps me be sure I ain't selling to an ATF spy if I trade or sell something I am tired of or want to upgrade.
For Bama, that's incorrect. It used to be at the ffl's discretion if you had a permit. No longer. In Bama, a background check is supposed to be ran on every purchase through a ffl That's because AL issues permits without a background check with fingerprints. In GA, fingerprints and a background check = no call in to the feds for a gun sale

In GA, fingerprints and a background check = no call in to the feds for a gun sale That isn’t accurate. There were some Alabama sheriffs that were not doing background checks. They are suppose to do them. There is no requirement from the ATF that fingerprinting be done. But, they do require a background check.

My understanding is that because of the background plus the fingerprints, then the GA permit removes the call-in requirement for a 4473. I will maintain my permit for that reason alone.
The fingerprint requirement isn’t necessary to have the ATF allow the purchase without the call in. They only require a permit with a background check and the permit can’t have an expiration date more than 5 years after issuance.

A database that only the police can access, one more clever way to gather and register every gun owner in the state of Alabama and across the nation. I gave up my NRA membership when they became so self serving. I will be contacting my local rep about this.
But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?

I know nothing about this bill but I read that the sheriff's supported it. I guess I'll have to read up on it. I don't know how it would affect me. I have a permit that says lifetime on it that a sheriff issued to me, as he did for all retired LE officers in the county. I'm also covered under LEOSA but it seems that no one really knows what applies to.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Looks like the Sheriff's wanna kill the lifetime permit, but are pushing hard for the permit data base You are correct Either bill is no more than a gun registry for law abiding citizens ....criminals do not care The law abiding people will be the ones who pay the tax on this bill with the increase of permits to fund this illegal venture....watch and see when/if it passes

Next will be the Red Flag law. They'll say "We already know that he has an arsenal because we have it in our database at ALEA and we gotta kick his door down and get those guns"
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

“If the State converts a right (liberty) into a privilege, the citizen can ignore the license and fee and engage in the right (liberty) with impunity.” (Shuttlesworth v. City of Birmingham, Alabama, 373 U.S. 262) I'll go a step further. Not only do I oppose the bill, but I also oppose concealed carry permits in general. It's a tax on a right granted to me by God and the Constitution of the United States.

Some one asked if we don't already have this with the permit system?
