49er I have read them. Maybe not front to back but I have read them. And I did not hear it from your average joe and have heard it from a cop and game warden. And when those kinds of people tell you thing you should listen well I try to anyway.

Seems like this horse gets beat about three times a year..........
I have shot MANY deer with a .223. Many, many, deer. It works just fine. A 55 grain soft point bullet or one of the new 60 grain bullets will do a good job out to 150 yards. They will break bone, pass through, and kill a deer. I've seen it, done it, liked it. Stay away from the balistic tips or the varmint loads and you'll be just fine.
I have a custom ruger 77 in .223 that I use for a truck gun and about 90% of the deer I kill myself are shot with it. I've killed 200 pound bucks on down to coys and what ever. I have a buddy that is a profession hunter in Africa. He culls, hundreds of animals, with one. Uses them on Impala to Kudu. Shot placement on the larger stuff is vital, but you can shoot a small gun that don't recoil much alot better than a 300 ultra mag.
I have never shot any, but the 60 grain fussion should be nasty on a deer. I bought 1000 rounds of the Black Hills 55 grain soft points about 4 years ago and I ain't out yet. When I do run out, I'll probably try the fussion.

I have probably killed more deer with a .22LR than most of the goobers that post here. And, yes, I know it was illegal! The Statute of Limitations has long since ran out on that!!! ![smile smile](/forum/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif)
