Amazon is doing good too. DG is filling the gaps that Amazon cannot fill. It wouldnt surprise me if both companies didnt join forces and knock off Walmart.

I can’t ride my 4 wheeler to Amazon and get a bag of Fritos and a Sunkist in the next 5 minutes. A week ago, my ex wife ordered a new power cord for my daughters computer on Amazon Prime. I asked my daughter about it yesterday and she said her mom got notice that it wouldn't be here until May 6th. That won't work because she needs it for school. In less than 2 minutes I ordered one on Ebay (new in the box) and it will be here Monday. It was also $4 cheaper. I rarely order off Amazon because once I price check I usually find it cheaper , elsewhere.

Yep, amazon is "prioritizing" orders of "essential" items.....that means even if you have PAID FOR EXPEDITED SHIPPING (prime membership), they're not honoring it. Hell, this should be their time to shine, even more so than normal, since folks can't/don't want to go out in public. Instead, they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Amazon got blitzed virtually overnight on "I need my package shipped NOW!" and they couldn't do it, thus the prioritization and attempt to hire new workers for distribution. But they couldn't keep up and still can't, and never will. There's too many of us wanting our Prime schitt on the porch NOW no matter if it's a bathmat or kimchi or "essential" stuff. Our nation of immediacy and Amazon's promises to deliver couldn't mesh.
Also, no one at Amazon smiles and says, "Hey baby, how you doin' today?" when I check out.

This little experiment we are going thru is going to open up a lot of people way of thinking about shopping. Ive been ordering 75% of my groceries, and almost all my household goods online for a couple of years now. Now that many others have been semi forced into doing it also I think it will help to push that online trend further.
if Amazon bought out DG and cleaned them up some it would put a hurting on wally world for sure. I try not to buy much from DG other than some food items, or unless its all that's around to shop at. Their china stuff seems to be one step lower in quality than wally worlds china stuff.

Between Lake View and Bessemer, there are 4 DGs, and none are more than 4 miles apart In a lot of the rural places they were welcomed and needed. Jefferson county has put a big hell no on a few off them being proposed built that I know of. Im glad of it. I get their business model of cutting off people before they get to a larger store but we don't need one on every corner 4 miles apart.

Doesn't DG use satellite imagery to count rooftops to determine where to locate Dollar General stores? Would be a good idea if they did. Within 10 miles of our home I know of at least five DG stores.

They have a GIS based algorithm that shows them where to put stores based on population data, traffic, distance to Walmart is a big part of it, and some other factors.

Doesn't DG use satellite imagery to count rooftops to determine where to locate Dollar General stores? they map out areas. They find a large population. Locate the nearest wal mart grocery store whatever, and try to place DG between that population and the other store and cut them off by convenience.

I was at a DG the other day. Clerk called down some folks wanting to talk to me in the checkout line. Told us to practice social distancing. I said “Hey, mo-fo. I can’t help it that I’m charismatic and people want to talk to me. Ring that chocolate rabbit up and mind your own damn business,” One of the guys trying to talk to me had a mask on. I don’t even know who it was. Chit gets weird like that sometimes in G’ville.
