twaldrop4 OP 10 point Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 3,508 Central Al	I'm wanting a new deer rifle. I have .270, .243, 6.5, and 300 win mag. I am looking at 7mm08 and 30/06 mainly. I wouldn't mind a 25/06. I really wanted a short action, but I keep coming back to a 30/06 just because of versatility. This will mainly be a treestand gun. Somebody talk me off the ledge.

Yes I realize there isn't much difference in a 30/06 and .308, and for that matter a 6.5, 7-08, and a .308, but I just don't like a .308. Honestly I don't care for a 270 either. Once again, I know how crazy, if not idiotic that sounds, but I am just being honest.

Barnes vortx 130gr TTSX is a great load. If you want something cheaper federal fusions have done well for me also. You said it would mainly be a treestand gun so I’d stick to short action calibers with a 20in barrel, 7-08 or .308 ... flip a coin and get to killing. Good luck in your search and keep us posted.
