Wow thank you Jesus! I got is all done finally but it sure was tough hunting.

After weeks and weeks of torrential rain leading up to opening weekend, my birds were way up on the mountain still and acting pretty weird. They are usually gobblin' their heads off a couple weeks before season and often they are fired up a few hundred yards behind the house.

I should have known this wouldn't be a typical year since I invited some teammates down from the Midwest to hunt. Well for three weeks leading up to opening weekend I only got a few sporadic pics of birds and the rare bird on camera was almost always a hen. Well for the first week we hunted super hard and pressured the heck out of silent birds only dropping one low scoring two year old longbeard.

the next couple weeks were terrible. I hunted super hard and would get close to and call in hens and jakes nearly every day but more often than not would walk right into birds that I had no idea were even around. I kid you not, one day I walked straight into FIVE different groups of silent birds all at less than 30 yards.

I finally called my good buddy Joe Hamm and asked him what I should do. He gave me some advice and I turned the corner almost immediately still had some heartache but ended up tagging out after killing most of my birds in less than a week. It was still super tough and they remained mostly silent with one notable exception. This year was mostly spot and stalk super skittish, silent birds.

I know it don't mean nothin' to anyone but me but I was super stoked to have my my thirteen year old daughter take a pic of me with #5 and that pic was actually used in a Blocker Outdoors (formerly ScentBlocker) ad.

So I am headed to Indiana next and then possibly South Carolina.

I have a few buddies hunting around Indiana and they are saying the same thing (that they are gobbling like crazy and super active). I will be in Madison, Indiana with most of the management team at Blocker Outdoors & ScentLok. They organized a work/hunt at this outfitter with over 12,000 acres. Hoping to cull a bird that I have entered in a team contest. Even though all of all the virds I got here in Alabama were adult longbeards, the biggest wasn't but 59" and some change.

Where in Idiana do you live? I was born and raised in South Carolina but had an aunt and uncle that had a massive farm near Brazil, Indiana. As a kid I would go up there every year and spend a month with them in the Summer. Those were some of my fondest memories as a kid and I have always enjoyed the rare opportunities to go back there. What a beautiful state and the people are some of the best you will find anywhere.

I live in Seymour which is 50 miles from Madison. They kill some Really nice bucks in that place
