He didn’t know who you were and was asking investigative questions. How you approach people is all up to the cop. If you know how many times we get lied to about everything you would question everything and everyone too. Cop did his job. Your stuff didn’t get broke into and everyone went home. Sounds like a win to me. The fact that they made contact with your father tells me that he is listed as a contact to the business so anyone else with a different name would have been questioned. Did your father tell the alarm dispatcher anything? A lot of times our narrative on our computers can read out to make it seem like a possible burglary.

I believe Alabama is a "implied consent" state. The id he had (ie driver's license) is property of the state. When he accepted it as a form of id, he gave his "implied consent" to present it to any law enforcement officer upon their request.

If he was actually concerned about my property being broken in to he wouldn't have been so late arriving on the scene and he would have driven in quicker.

he was just doing his job, buy added his own assholeish slant to it. Some LEOs are just assholes, just like any other occupation.

All he knows is the building had an alarm go off and your arse is setting there in a truck when he arrived. If you had said you were "waiting on a friend" and the cop just got in his car and drove off you would be mad about that too.

My mind was made up at about 2:00 on Sunday that the guy was a dickhead and I was pissed. That hasn't changed.

I don't mind that the guy was "doing" his job but it's the way he "did" his job is what pissed me off.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to talk with the Chief (a long time friend) about his officers attitude.

The most relevant thing in all of this is "WHY DON'T YOU KNOW YOUR CODE?"

I get that he was doing his job and am glad. But some of the shitt they ask - like "Why are you here on a Sunday?" - isn't their f'king business. And it was obvious that he did not hear you - wasn't listening - or didn't believe you when you said you were the owner.

It's stuff like this that makes people not want to deal with LEOs for anything, which is unfortunate. One dick can create problems for everyone.

Reading literacy isn't a strong suit with some folks o this site.

As far as I know, there is no state that can compel a person to identify themselves if law enforcement can't cite a specific crime they suspect the person of. Alabama's implied consent law applies to licensed drivers implied consent to blood and breathalyzer testing if suspected of DUI.

He was pissed because he had to stop his Sunday afternoon nap or Sunday afternoon phucking off to go check out an alarm call. What made him think you didn’t know your code? As far as asking for the ID, it’s just something that is done to make sure you’re not a wanted ax murderer or a child rapist. It gives LEOs info on if a person has a criminal history or possibly an arrest warrant. It’s all about officer safety. All LEOs have the “ASSHOLE” switch. Some of them it takes a lot to make the flip the switch, others never turn the switch off. That’s the ones that make all LEOs look bad. I also agree with what Foldemup said. I damn sure would have. I have. I have zero tolerance for any assholes.

Yeah, I am a huge defender of LEOs, and appreciate the heck out of the job 99.99% of them do. But I think this guy had an attitude for whatever reason. He ASSUMED you didn't "know the code" and he ASSUMED you said you were an employee, and you know what they say about that word, but in this case, he simply made an ass outta himself...I'd be steamed as well...

I feel the cop did his job. He doesn't know you being the owner, or someone waiting at the gate for his friend who stole something off your place.

You're being a big idiot, complaining for him asking for your ID and not believing you.
If he asked for a thief's ID and only took his word he was the owner, and let him go because of his word, you'd be upset as well.
