Here’s a question piggy backing off this....
I see on Live Pd these cops pull up to people hanging out in a public area and asking for ID’s. Do those people have to give them Id’s or can they tell the cops to screw off? I’m all for the cops checking people with suspicion of wrongdoing, but if I’m just hanging out minding my own business, so I have to give them an ID? They can ask and you can refuse. Nothing they can legally do unless they can articulate a specific crime your suspected of. I believe Alabama is a "implied consent" state. The id he had (ie driver's license) is property of the state. When he accepted it as a form of id, he gave his "implied consent" to present it to any law enforcement officer upon their request. Nope. Implied consent has nothing to do with showing a cop your ID.

I read your post fully.
I didn't read the replies.
I feel the cop did his job. He doesn't know you being the owner, or someone waiting at the gate for his friend who stole something off your place.
You're being a big idiot, complaining for him asking for your ID and not believing you.
If he asked for a thief's ID and only took his word he was the owner, and let him go because of his word, you'd be upset as well.

Cops can be professional without being dick heads. Some unfortunately would rather be dick heads. For the record I own two warehouses that are behind gates, where the same could happen to me. I would not take kindly to someone, cop or not, being rude just because they can.

Those are two different standards. They are easy to get confused.

Well, the second they got a call to respond to an alarm and found you on the premises, they had every right to ask for your ID and/or detain you. Remember, “probable cause” just means there’s just a reasonable suspicion of you committing a crime that they then can further investigate at that time. You being on a property when an alarm goes off fits that criteria.
I understand it’s frustrating since it’s your property, but imagine how pissed you’d be if the cops responded and their had actually been a burglar who just said “nah man, this is my house. Put your thumb in your dickhole and leave”. And they would of actually left!

I support profiling 110%. You dont fit the bill for criminal. 99.9% of what those guys deal with are black thugs or white meatheads. Plain and simple. It ain't rocket science.
