Y'all all making alot of assumptions about what the officer knew or didn't know and when he knew it.. Info that was given , was the OP told him he was the owner, I didn't see anywhere that he verified in any kind a way that the OP was the owner other than OP saying he was. In my mind the questions were asked to satisfy the officers suspicions. So I wan't to know did the OP contact the security company and have them verify who he he was to the officer. Only legit way to do it. No one else but the Security company can do that satisfactorily. If he wants to be mad the security company is who he should be mad at The only way to prove who owns a corporation is to go to the tax office and they were closed on Sunday. Also you can’t go now due to the Wuhan. He damn sure couldn’t find that out by “running me” through is dispatch.

If he wants to be mad the security company is who he should be mad at I know when the alarm company can’t make contact with the party on the call list and they call our office, we are dispatched to the location of the alarm. If contact is made with the party before we arrive, and it was andn accidental set off, the alarm company informs us of the person they talked with and they verified everything was good. We then cancel the call. This is why I said they may have already New the name of the owner and when BGH stated he was the owner the officer IDed him to verify he was who he said he was. We know everyone who has alarms here and and who the contact persons are.

The officer has to establish who is authorized and who has the passcodes.Who other than security company who is contracted with the PD can verify who has the passcodes and who they are. That is what the alarm is for ,that is listed with the security company. If this is a business ,asking why you were there on Sunday is a legit question.

Clearly we have 3 distinct teams on this topic.
1. Those that hate me now because I had a bad run in with an asshole for a cop and it’s 100% my fault regardless of the actual circumstances.
2. Those that hate the cop because he was an asshole to me before AND after he confirmed who I was. (By the way; to my knowledge there is no way for him to confirm I was the owner by “running me” as he said)
3. Those that don’t think I know my code for my alarm. I can understand your frustration but it dont sound like he did anything other than just being a asshole

On the other hand ,it all started with you accidentally tripping the alarm, and that one smartass statement not the end of the world. The officer didn't cuss you, , he did his due diligence to protect your property. He made a smartass statement to you that offended you and you said nothing to him about it. Over and done with. Internet where one party is not here to tell his side or defend himself. Officer did his job in my mind until you give him the opportunity to explain his actions and words

Montgomery police came up to me putting stuff in my dumpster at my office on a Saturday. Asked me if I had permission.
I appreciated it, hope they do that to everyone I don't think its the checking on or asking things that bother most people. Its the crappy or guilty of something till you prove them wrong attitude most of them do it with is the problem.

What happened that someone was right or wrong about or at fault for something. If you want to call me a dickhead, call me one I can take it. If you to believe I was a drunk on power officer when I worked feel free I can take it . Get it out your system. Make you feel better. Try being direct. Confront head on the crap that bothers you. Call the officer or his boss. Never bothered me a bit when the public complained to my boss about how they felt I treated them. Their absolute right to do so as the public I served, which happened twice in thirty years. If there is anything to the officer you will get that apology you so desperately want if you are owed one and you want get if you aren't.

It's comical how much conversation this generated. I went back and read the OP. BGH doesn't clearly state this, but I would assume this was in the daylight? If the cop had come on scene at night and you were parked next to the building just after an alarm call came in, I'd be a tense LEO, too! But to say things like, better give me your license to 'cover my butt' and the whole code thing, as I stated prior to this, with the attitude he seemed to have, I'd be upset too. There is a big difference between being no-nonsense, this is serious business, I have to make sure you are not a bad guy, I'm on high alert here, and just being a jerk because you have a badge and a gun. Like a previous post, Andy vs. Barney Fife.

If I was LEO and walked up on some guy standing at a warehouse gate with his thumb in this richardhole mumbling "now what was that code again", I would likely ask for his ID also.
