and sitting this year out. It's been a horrible garden year so far. Started with the flood we had and has been going down hill ever since. I got everything tilled and had my hills laid out and we got the flood which about washed my topsoil away. Had to disc it up and start over got the ground cover laid out and drip irrigation laid out, something I was trying this year which came with its own learning curve, figured out real quick if you lay drip tape on top of ground cover it requires a lot of staples to keep the wind from ripping it all up and throwing it in the woods, then the rain has made thing hard to get it in the ground, planted my squash to get a early pick like I normally do, and we hot a random frost one morning just a light one but enough to just about kill them all, planted 46 tomatoe plants last Sunday and they never seemed to recover from the transplant, but looked like could make a recovery all week just might be stunted then went out Friday afternoon to cover them for the possible frost this weekend and all but one tomatoes is to the point of no return, and will have to replanted, and I can't find the hybrid plants I had. I started all them from seeds and have been hardening them for the transplant. Just seemed like a lot of work pissed in the wind. Was going to plant my corn, okra, and melons seeds this week and my pepper plants but thinking waiting till next year after the way this garden season started off.

It's definitely been a tough gardening year. My earliest planted tomatoes look really good, but the ones I planted a week ago Saturday look rough. I covered them Friday and Saturday nights. My cucumbers, squash and zuchinni are sitting still. If I had to replant everything, I wouldn't plant as much, but I'd plant some because I don't intend to go through the summer without fresh vegetables.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Jesus! I just planted a week ago. You guys got an early start. That really warm weather we had last week of march and first week in april was a dirty dirty trick. I gambled and lost.

Same here on some stuff. I’ve actually planted Lima’s 3x. Lost first ones to frost and second ones to that massive rain event. I had to replant a BUNCH of peas (sweet green and purple Hull. My corn however is doing good.

Luckily all my stuff is doing well, but will be watering before long.

Watermelons require warm soil....I think something like 90 degrees is optimal. Try putting down some black plastic and warming the soil up.

Take a black garbage bag and put it on each mound.....or they sell rolls that go down each row. The soil temp is likely what you're having the most issues with. if nothing else just wait a little while for it to warm up naturally.. Get a thermometer that you check meat temps with and use to it to monitor your soil temps.

Get a thermometer that you check meat temps with and use to it to monitor your soil temps. Have you ever grown several acres of watermelons? I could have 10acres disked up and replanted before you could get 1/2acre of plastic put down. Not to mention all replanting cost is about $35 for a pound of seeds and a can of fuel. I know the ground temp is the problem and if it were a small home garden, your plan would be great. Heck, if I was set up to put everything on plastic with drip tape, that would be the best possible way, but im not set up for it. I gambled on the weather and I lost. No big deal. Ill replant and something else will happen later on this summer.
