After a couple years of trying, we finally convinced her dad (in name only) to terminate his rights and allow me to adopt her. I have been with her mother since she was three and I have never thought of her as anything but my daughter anyway. Never cared for the term step-dad. She’s 11 now and has called me daddy for as long as I can remember. This little girl has been my hunting and fishing buddy since day one. Her biological dad is a piece of shittt, druggie who will never get his life together. I was sick of the promises to her that he would make about coming to see her and then breaking her heart. We’ve almost come to blows several times over it. He hasn’t seen her but 3-4 times since she was 5. He owed over $27,000 in back child support, but me and her mom went to DHR and signed a letter absolving him of all responsibility, including the money. Only way he would sign. But that’s over. His loss when it comes seeing this wonderful girl become a beautiful lady. I couldnt be happier today. She’s over the moon as well. God is good. I didn't realize it as much at the time, but damn, I appreciate my dad now and everything that he did for us. He's the only Dad I've ever known and was more of a man than he ever had to be. He accepted us as his own and always has. I can tell you are the same kind of man. I respect the hell out of you. The fool tells me his reasons; the wise man persuades me with my own.
