I have 2 steers that will process next Monday. They are grass fed and they are big. I’m keeping one. The steers will weigh 1800 lbs each. One half is sold and the other half needs to go. $2500 for the half. If it doesn’t sell I’m having the whole half ground into burger and will sell that in minimum quantities of 20 lbs at $5 per pound.

If two of you guys want to split the half that’s fine with me as long as you coordinate that. They are being processed at The Brickyard in Cullman.

What should you expect to get out of half cow from processor?

All you need to know is. Dead deer don't grow!

Any clue how backed up The Brickyard is? Most that we have used are saying they are backed up into the fall, October was earliest I heard from!

I would expect somewhere around 400 lbs or more. I talked to a guy today that just had one processed that got a 60% yield, but that sounds high to me. He said he got 600 lbs of packaged meat from a 1000 lb steer.

I know $2500 sounds like a lot for that much beef, but it's not, especially with me paying the processing fee out of that. Processing fee runs from 50-70 cents per live pound at most places. I haven't asked the Brickyard what their price is but I expect it's on the high end. They're supposed to be the best around.

About the same. Last week when I talked to them, the earliest dates they had were in September.

Will there be a bunch of different cuts of meat or what? Would a 1/4 cow fit in a stand up freezer? How long would the meat be good for? I live in Cullman. Thanks for the info.

You could have your quarter cut any way you wanted it. Hamburger, steaks, roasts, whatever. There won’t be a whole lot of “premium” steaks in a quarter but you could have several sirloins.

If I was over in that part of town I'd take the entire half. That's not a bad price at all for custom cut beef

Maybe somebody will jump on it soon. If not I'll have a freezer and a half slap full.

I may know someone who wants it. Let me text them. When would it be ready?

I can't believe nobody has committed to this with beef prices the way they are at the store. You'll never get the opportunity again to buy grass fed beef cheaper than store bought beef.

Anybody interested in a 1/4?

I guess cause 1/2 of a 1800 lb steer is a LOT of beef. You always raise them that big? I would liked to buy 50-100 lbs of hamburger.
