I think I’ve said how much bad luck I have at growing tomatoes. Well I got it going right this year. Yes I’m knocking on wood right now. We have been enjoying tomatoes for about a week now. I’m trying to be patient and let these clusters ripen completely before I pick any off them. [Linked Image][Linked Image]

Thats a mighty fine looking string of maters. Beautiful. You should be proud.

I would say that you got it going on! Looking great. Hopefully I can get close to that good.

What did you do different this year compared to past years?

I added lots of organic matter and compost to the area I was gonna to plant them. I also planted them on top of buried drip tape and used a soluble 20-20-20 fertilizer thru the injector into the drip tape. I put the fertilizer and water right at the roots. Also did the same with the calcium nitrate. If nothing happens I will have to can or give tomatoes away with everything that are on the plants. I’m fixing to have to switch to 6.5’ T post. The plants have outgrown or are breaking the 4’ wooden stakes I put.

If you haven't had a vine ripe tomato yet this year, you have way more restraint than I do leaving those good looking maters on the vine! Looks great. I'd say you've got it figured out.

My tomatoes look the best this year than I guess they've ever looked. I directly relate it to covering the soil with plastic last year and leaving it on for 9-10 months. I planted my tomatoes in those areas and so far.... I have no disease symptoms showing up in them.

Marsh what are you using for fertillizer injection? I was using a Chaplin g405 and its a pile, I ordered a easy flow but it hasn't made it in yet.

The easy flow is what I have. It works great but you have to watch the water pressure out the faucet if you are using it on a small section of drip tape.

We are getting so many tomatoes we are having to give some to the neighbors. I’ve been stuffing myself with them cherry tomatoes and little yellow pear tomatoes. Finally started getting a few celebrations and romas also. The cucumbers have started also. All I can say is WOW!!![Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image]

I live in Baton Rouge and both me and my neighbor have had the best crop of tomatoes we have had in years too.

You have to plant a regular cucumber with them so there will be male flowers to pollinate all the female flowers. They really taste great. Most normal people would only need a couple plants and have more cucs then they can handle. We planted about 400 row feet of them. Fixing to get real here. rofl

Good grief man. You might as well buy a couple of pigs to feed out on over ripe cucumbers. LOL And for future reference, don't plant Straight 8's. That's the only variety my dad would plant. Those son of a guns will get bitter with a 3 day dry spell. I hate them.

Marsh, next year plant some Sun Sugar hybrid cherry tomatoes. You'll never go back. Far and away the best cherry tomato I've ever had. They're yellow.

I planted one of those for the first time this year. They are indeed the best tasting of any I have had. They turn dark orange when fully ripe and are delicious.
