[quote] quote on changing the boots on the steering guess it's the pinion and they said Polaris didn't just sell the boots or replace the boots, they had to do the whole steering and rack and pinion and it was going to be $600 or something. [quote]
Bruce at Alabama Axle here in Tuscaloosa can repair the boots (and rebuild the assembly) if needed

So just thought I'd give an update on this whole ordeal.
Shortly after making this post and getting my SUPPOSEDLY SERVICED ranger back from Ward's in Troy, it blew up. I'm talking about the very next week, maybe 2 hours of use. First thing I did was look for oil anywhere and check the dip stick for oil. It's dry, no oil anywhere, nothing registering on the dip stick. I haul it back up to Wards and tell the girl I'm not sure they put oil back in it after changing the filter, etc and she barked about how it must have dropped all the oil somewhere when it blew up...ummm, no didn't see oil anywhere. She sounded like they would look at it the next week and I knew the chances of them admitting any wrong doing were zero. So I just sucked it up and figured I'd either pay to rebuild or screw it and get a new one. I was literally prepared to buy a new one FROM THEM if it was over $3k for me to fix it.
Fast forward 3 weeks, no word, I call, leave message, no return call, rinse repeat multiple times. Finally get the girl in charge of service on the phone and she gives me every excuse about why they haven't got to it - not even looked at it to see what's wrong, should be soon in fact think I just saw them pulling it in she says. Another 2 weeks, repeat that whole thing, won't return calls, have to keep calling to get her, tons of excuses - 60 units came in, corona, her brain fell out, you name it. So I tell her screw you, I'm just gonna come get it. Send me nephew and a buddy up to get it and she has the gaul to tell him, "I wish he would have come get it himself b/c I really wanted to explain to him the scenario here." Well you dumb you know what, maybe you could have picked up the phone and called me just one time!!!
So I get it down here to Pensacola where I have more options, guy opens the motor up and says, "This thing never had any oil in it, filter isn't even oiled up." And of course the motor is blown and needs a full rebuild, which is in the works now.
I guess lesson learned here is stay the hell away from Wards in Troy!!!

I'd of videoed the result with my phone all around the vehicle after it happened to show no oil in sight. Documented the return, the conversations, and had an attorney call after 2 weeks of no service. I guess I'm just tired of people not doing the right things. That's also why I service most, if not all of our belongings. Sorry to read of your issues. I'd at least call the Polaris corporation and complain. God Bless, David B.

Mistakes happen. But for them to not make it right is horrible.
Sounds like you are taking it in stride.

Isn't the conspiracy theory nut job on the radio show "clearing the air" the same man as the owner of Adams?
That's enough reason to not go there for anything! What are his conspiracy theories??

Oh yeah, and I forget to mention that she told my nephew how they were down to just 1 service tech b/c they had had to fire 2 others. I'm like, hmmmmm, gee, wonder why you would need to be firing 2 techs, is it possible they were doing things like FORGETTING TO PUT FREAKING OIL IN AFTER DOING AN OIL CHANGE!!!
Yeah, I'm taking it in stride, it's all over and done with now, no way in hell they would own up to it. I do think I'm going to go by and ask for the owner and just calmly tell him the story to let him know what is going on back there...but chances are he already knows.

Ace High in Montgomery is the go to man for any fou rwheeler work.
I wouldn't trust the two dealer shops on the northeast blvd. in Montgomery.
The "Powersports" Honda and Yamaha dealer has the worst service shop on the planet.

Wards repaired a ranger XP900 for a friend of mine who was hunting with me from out of state. took it in , two days later pronounced repaired. The repair did not even hold up one a half day when put back it use. Resulted in a long walk back to camp for my friend. Always heard Ward's was good, and nice people. The owners probably are nice folks, never met them, but there is a talent or culture problem in their repair shop it appears as it relates to customer service , customer satisfaction and doing a job right.

There's definitely a problem in service and she is the service manager. I sat in there one time when I was picking up my "serviced" ranger and she was on the phone with some poor guy. She told him she couldn't find his paperwork about 30 times and I'm watching her push papers around on this disorganized desk for probably 6-7 minutes as this guy is waiting. Finally has to tell him she can't find it and will have to call him back. Then she proceeded to ram a very large un-lubricated one straight up my arse.

Ask for Phillip who is the service manager. I’m not saying they’re spectacular or anything but if you pay for an oil change it will be done. Ultimately they’re a dealer but so far they have serviced mine right. And Phillip won’t lose your paperwork.

I've used a bunch of service for atvs and sxs in Central AL. I was thinking about it this weekend. I dropped my Ranger off at a shop that is close to 45 min away. I drove past 2 others to get there. It isn't that the shop I went to is spectacular. They are just competent and not complete dick holes.
So, I am happy to give them my money.

“Piston slap is generally caused when the cold running clearance (piston-to-wall clearance) is large enough that when the piston rocks from side to side in the bore it “slaps” the side of the cylinder and causes noise,” explains JE Pistons' Clayton Stothers. This piston slap comes within the Polaris Accessories too from the Kemimoto Store!
