The Galleria has a no-firearms policy. So, I guess you can carry concealed until a dog sniffs you out. LINK

I seem to recall that gunfree zone has really worked out well for them. 😕🙄

OK, fellow ALDEERIANS who are LEOs/former LEOs, or who know something about this, how accurate are "gun sniffing dogs" and what are they sniffng?? Gunoil? Powder? I have heard of dogs being able to smell out lots of things but not guns!

I have heard of dogs being able to smell out lots of things but not guns! I would think it is the powder, or powder residue. Not so different than a bomb dog or a drug dog. They have an amazing ability to smell.

We had a bomb dog with my unit in Iraq. You could take a single bullet, wipe it clean, and hide it. That sucker could find it.

Hadnt been to the Galleria in a number of years. Wife and I were shopping in B'ham prior to Christmas and she needed to pick something up at one of the stores there. We walked in and ran into a small tribe of patrons with their pants down around their knees as soon as we opened the door to enter the Galleria. I rarely feel uncomfortable in any environment but I immediately realized that it was a situation where I should be carrying. I turned back around and escorted her back out to the truck, untucked my shirt, reached under the seat and put it on my person before we walked back in. It was a freaking zoo in there and nothing like it used to be 15-20 yrs ago or even 10 for that matter. I will not be going back to that craphole ever again. It's tough to shop with the wife when your head is constantly on a swivel assessing the dozens of possible threats around you at all times. I'll also say that none of the people I'm talking about were shopping or spending money at any of the stores. Just a gathering place and ripe for trouble.

Blacks will ruin the Galleria to the point that it has to close.
They did that to the Montgomery Mall and then after that closed they targeted the Eastdale Mall which is now half closed. Been more shootings in and outside Eastdale then you can shake a stick at.

I have heard of dogs being able to smell out lots of things but not guns! I would think it is the powder, or powder residue. Not so different than a bomb dog or a drug dog. They have an amazing ability to smell. For sure. But for the sake of argument, if you had a pistol you had not fired (I know, pistols are fired before they leave the factory, but then they are cleaned very well) do you think a well trained dog would sniff out your concealed weapon? A bomb dog finding a single bullet is amazing!!

The dog will find it 99 times out of a hundred if properly trained and handled. The dogs are trained to find vapor instead of odor ( difference is source). The source would be powders.

I'd also bet if Rover hits on your legally owned and carried piece thus infringing on your rights and threating your lifesaving safety rescue equipment it'd be okay to make sure Rover couldn't threat anyone else. Watch your ears.

I'd be willing to bet they can do it with almost 100% acccuracy. I can turn my deer dogs loose in the nastiest most overgrown thicket briars in the state and they will find a deer nearly every time, hiding, that has not moved for hours. A gun in someone’s pocket should be an easy days work. Wow...my bird dogs have done some amazing retrieves, but I still wonder, with a very well-cleaned weapon, how the oil is triggering them. But they say a dog can have a couple of thousand times the scent capability of a human...

Said it before and I’ll say it again: Century Plaza 2.0 True story. They have tried to put some lipstick on this pig with condos and re-development but Birmingham is in bad shape. There is more empty office and retail space than you can shake a stick at. The China Flu impact is coming next so there will be an additional round of closures in the Fall. I can't think of a reason anywhere I would shop... would move in the Galleria.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
